Hey all, So I went from a numark mixtrack to a pair of stanton str8-60s, vestax mixer, and traktor scratch A6. Just wondering if there are any adjustments I should make in traktor for anything. It all seems to work fine but Im just wondering from anyone with more experience in the DVS world and traktor if there is anything I should fine tune. One question about my stantons though, when I barely move the pitch fader it jumps 4-5 bpm and then moves slightly from there… Is there a way to correct that issue? Any tips, advice, or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated, thanks…
Nah…things should work similarly. Eventually, you might want to invest in something like an X1 to control loops, hot cues, effects, and abs/rel mode.
What do you mean by “barely move”? Like…physically how far. If you’re used to a MIDI controller with the pitch range set low, the turntable will be more sensitive. But 4-5 BPM is about 3.5%, which should be like a third of the distance from center to either end of the pitch fader.
Make sure your needles are clean. DVS does weird things when the needles aren’t getting good contact. As far as pitch fader, there are some settings but I’ve never messed with them as they have been fine for me.
" Set Tempo Range: Set a global tempo range for all Tempo Faders or set a range for each Deck
individually. This will define the maximum amount you can increase or decrease tempo. The
available values are 2 %, 4 %, 6 %, 8 %, 10 %, 12 %, 14 %, 16 %, 18 %, 20 %, 25 %,
35 %, 50 % and 100 %.
If you choose a range of 100 % you are able to perform a full stop of a track with TRAKTOR’s
software Tempo Fader."
I thought it scales the turntables pitch fader via those settings. If you have it set to say 20% in the Traktor settings then it will scale the 10% (ease of math) variation from your turntable to 20%. So if your turntable tempo was set to 5% on a 10% pitch fader range and Traktor set on a range setting of 20%, wouldn’t it jump 10% instead of 5%?
As far as I know, that’s not the case, but it’s easy to check. Set the software fader to 100% and see if the audio stops when you push the turntable’s tempo fader to -10.
Ill check that out when I get home, Im at work right now, booooooo haha. Anyways as far as how far I move the fader of center, i move it like an 1/8th of an inch and it jumps 3.5% and then gradual from there. This is a hardware problem it seems as I came across a post somewhere else with someone with the same issue. Its hard to describe without posting pics or something but it seems with these tables if you move the pitchfader -3.5% or so the bpms are actually the same as center. So Its kind of like the faders are off center. If I had a link to the site I would post it up but I cant remember where I found a better explanation. Other than that its all working great, not as good as my friends 1200s, but Its great for now. I would like to add an X1 or really ditch the vestax for a Z1 but with the funds… not anytime soon.
Traktor’s pitch range select has nothing to do with range on your TT.
I used Stanton 60s for some years with Traktor and they definitely did NOT have that behaviour. 3.5% from 0% is A LOT. did you get them 2nd hand? seems to me like you have miscalibrated faders. you might need to send them in for repair.
I just checked on my traktor. on my T.92’s even when you set the tempo range to %50 in traktor when you move the pitch fader on the turntable the pitch in traktor only goes from +8 to -8 or +12 to -12 depending on how the turntable is setup.
just a stupid question are you looking at the numbers after the decimal point. even the best turntables have flutter every time you touch one or pitch one it takes some adjusting to get back. on 1200’s you would never notice. you can see it on the BPM counter on traktor.
