hey guys! I’ve really been trying to work on my mastering a lot, so if you would be kind enough to give my song a listen ( I know its not that good…yet) and just let me know with all the critique possible if anything sounds off. i.e.; bass is too much, highs are too high etc. I would really appreciate it. thank you! ~ Corbin Lied
I would say if you use multi-band compression on your master channel, dialing it in at the end would be considered part of the mastering phase. Also, minor cuts and boosts on a parametric EQ to certain bands during mastering is not uncommon.
Still I agree, how you are mixing your channels will have a larger general impact on bands than tweaking during the master phase will.
Same story though, I wouldn’t be able to tell you until I hear it on a decent system.
Bass too much and highs too much are both things I think are valid questions/concerns from a mastering perspective.
In this song it sounds a bit bass light when it’s just the kick early on. However once the basslines kick in (main and drop) they’re both super excessive in the sub range, say 40-60Hz. The high hats and clap/snare sound both sounded pretty bright and forward to me as well, in a loud club that would rip your ears off, not sure if that’s your intention.
So ummm, yeah, I guess it really is “bass is too much, highs are too high etc”.
