NIN uses an LPD8?

Check out the first video on the page: http://howtodestroyangels.com/home.html

They have all these expensive synthesizers and stuff, and then there’s this LPD8 sitting in the middle of everything.

Sick videos. Good question bout the LPD8… looks like he had it as a mute of some sort.

Better yet, what is that rubberband synth in the bottom vid?!

i can’t fucking wait for the new album its going to be epic! they are blatantly using the ldp8 as some kind of fx unit connected to the keyboard, from what i read NIN are using ableton allot on this album.

why is the lpd8 such a surprise? just like all the ‘mini’ controllers they can be used as a very handy tool for additional functions or using a function in a different way.

Looks like a ribbon controller of some kind. Moog made one back in the day, this crap keyboardist named Keith Emerson used to use his for fireworks, what a wanker.

But further research reveals it to be a Swarmatron which uses ribbon controllers.

One of the synths is a Pro One from Sequential Circuits, the other looks a lot like nothing I can recall.

I find it strange that I’m saying this, but I’m a little excited to. Never have been a big NIN fan, but something strikes me as different about this production.

Synths in first video:

  1. Sequential Circuits Pro One
  2. ARP Axxe

Synths in last video:

  1. Korg MS-20
  2. Dewanatron Swarmatron

The Dewanatron Swarmatron is something new and I checked the Dewanatron website and there’s no mention if it’s something for sale.

Great catch on the Axxe - I knew it was Arp and was gonna guess it was an Oddysey, but I knew it wasn’t.

I used to love NiN, when TRen firts fired up, lost a lot of interest - but this is re-kindling it - maybe he’s gonna lose the depressive anger and just go for dark and spooky.

Found the only store that sells the Swarmatron: www.bigcitymusic.com

Price: $3200!

Btw, that store has some of the coolest devices! A tons of things I have never seen or heard before.
