Not enough USB room, hubs not working?

So as the title says I don’t have enough USB slots on my laptop to plug all my devices in. I’ve tried 2 different external powered USB 2.0 hubs but whenever I try to use midi devices or audio interfaces in them, they just don’t work. Currently what I’m trying to plug in is: Roland Juno keyboard / NI S4, Maschine, and Audio 6 / Akai APC 40 / 1 TB external HD / (mouse optional, would be nice)

Weird…I’ve not run into any problems like that with my hubs.

On my un-powered hub, I used to run a pair of X1s, a Maschine, and an LPD8 with an audio interface on the other USB port.

On my powered hub, I’m currently running…

  • maschine
  • a midi keyboard
  • a keyboard (with an un-powered 2 port hub)
  • iLok
  • USB memory key
  • a mouse
  • an external hard drive (without its own power)
  • My external monitor’s USB hub
  • Another USB key
  • CF Reader
  • iPhone Charger

I think the problem is that you just bought some crappy hubs somehow. Mine came from ThinkGeek or BestBuy and were bought mostly because they were cheap.

Are you using a PC or Mac?

There are some threads discussing hub issues with options that work for other peeps check them out and see if those hubs can be used by you.

@R3clu23 I am using a PC with Windows 7 64bit

edit: I did some digging around and I found that it’s probably due to something called transaction translators. I need a hub with multiple TT and I’m guessing the ones before had single TT

I searched and searched and settled on this hub 7 port hub 2 months ago.

It’s multi-TT and working perfectly. Not bad for less than 30 bucks.

I’m using it with:
launchpad
padkontrol
behringer BCF2000
USB midi from my Roland workstation keyboard
2 external Hard drives
USB power for my laptop cooling stand

BTW- I’m using Win 7 (32-bit).
