Numark 4Trak? NS6 for Traktor?

Numark 4trak official webpage

Interested to see what the software tweak is from Traktor.
Also the record button I will be interested in finding out if that is the loop recorder option in TP2 or no.

The efx rack with added kills to filters are plenty enough but the section from the original NS6 for efx fader… curious what their function will be on this controller.

When you said that the basic functions work using the 4Trak mapping with an NS6 - did that include the jogwheels and the jogwheel LEDs?

If so then surely we can use that part and then remap the rest?

I can chip in and give you guys some good feedback. I been using midi controllers for a while now. I also tested many before settled with the S4. This may sound a little biased but I think Numark does not design good product. I feel if though they take short cuts and outcome is flimsy. After owning the Numark Mixdeck I don’t see me ever buying another product with the name Numark on it. Mixdeck had a very poor design with the biggest issue of pitch control not being precise. It also use to make my laptop freeze and crash with million and one other issues. Bottom line good idea but terrible design.

This unit is basically the NS + Mixdeck all into one. While some may argue with my opinion I will say hands down the Traktor S4 is miles and miles ahead of this. That is IF you are using or planning on using Traktor as your OS. The S4 is basically a replica of the software itself. It does everything you want and there are no buttons missing or no buttons that you will not use. All the knobs are positioned perfectly and everything is precises and right on. I wish the platters where bigger but I’m a Trance DJ so for me this does the job and then some. One feature that all these MIDI controllers are forgetting to incorporate into their design is individual LED meters !!! Sure you can use your ear to match volume and adjust here and there but cmon this this is 2012 why not include a LED Meter? I think the meters result into smoother mixes since you can match the gains and mix in/out faster.

Now I’m not saying the S4 should be your only choice with Trakor. Trust me you want nightmares ? Then use the S4 with Windows 7  It does take time to quirk out all the bugs and get used to it. (FYI you may need to resort into a external soundcard if you plan on using the S4 with a Win 7 machine) But, once you get it running with everything fixed you will not want another controller. The only thing this has Vs the S4 is the XLR output. Other then that I don’t see how this product rumored to retail for $999 can compare to the S4 at $899.

That’s my 2 cents and hope this helps a few if they are stuck on getting this. Do yourself a favor and play with the S4 first and save yourself that $100 bucks.

I think common consensus is amongst most posters that S4 is clearly the leader in terms of integration with the software. No comparison really.

There are some shortcomings as far as hardware however. This in part is what the 4Trax addresses, but even it has its shortcomings the S4 addresses.

There is perfect solution it appears. To each his/her own…

The 4Trak isn’t a Mixdeck/NS6 mix. I actually don’t see any difference between the NS6 and the 4Trak other than the FX unit. So it’s more of a NS6/NS7 combo.

Also, I don’t think the 4Trak is aimed towards the same people who own S4s. The 4Trak is aimed at Traktor users who don’t need all the creative controls Traktor and the S4 offer and want a solid all metal controller with the best jogs available. Some people dislike the S4 because of it’s all plastic build, and liked the NS6 but didn’t like Serato. Not everybody uses all the features the S4 has to offer and those people will go with the 4Trak.

I wonder if Numark will release a firmware update for the NS6 that will make the jogwheel resolution better when using Traktor?

Numark just announced i t at NAMM 2012 here’s the link:

and

Bro, you know how late you are to the party?

some success!!

The 4Trak tsi mapping makes the jogwheel LEDs function properly.

The issue is not how do I merge the two tsi files to take advantage of this!

Anyone?

Soz about that didnt know about the turn page function kind of a n00b here ;D. I’m still all for the 4trak over the s4 and its becouse i feel the s4 feels a bit flimsy because of its plastic build but the 4trak has a fantastic metal biuld (and it looks way better to impress an audience:wink: Honestly the 4trak has all the features of the s4 has just in a more spaced out manner. This fixes my issue with space as i felt the s4 is also a bit cramped and i accidentally turn nobs i shouldnt turn while turning the adjacent buttuns/nobs. The s4 is all i’ve been waiting for a premium Traktor controller that adresses all the issues with the s4 and looks amazing.

Sorry for the double post - but this video should really be in the thread.

Im thinking about buying this. If you hook up cdjs to this and use it as a mixer with no software, can you still you the filters?

I think no, fx console is just for fx/filters in Traktor, but I’m not 100 % sure.

Yeah I figured…

Yeah, unfortunately not. The FX section doesn’t have any functionality when using external inputs (such as Vinyl and CDJs).

Here is my extended map for the 4Trak. V1.10

great. Let me know if it works out.

Download the map from here:

I checked out your NS6 mapping last night and all seems to work perfectly except you cannot move the track when its stopped with the platters. Also for some reason I could not do a backspin?

Otherwise fantastic work!

Anyone got a copy of the 4-trak firmware available?

In my opinion the best workaround would be to trick the 4trak driver install into thinking the ns6 is a 4trak, i recorded the “hand shake” when the driver install asks you to plug in the hardware, from the ns6 driver installer, and the 4trak installer, then tryed to spot the difference but it would take a more computer savvy man than me to make heads of it. I hope someone can sort this out, both numark, and traktor don’t seem care because there is only a handful of ns6/traktor users(maybe we should start a petition, all 10 of us), the fact is there is no money in it for them, I would pay for either NI to unlock the map-ability of the hid to ns6, or for numark to release a driver update/or firmware update to fix the problem. I have posted on both company’s forums and just keep getting nowhere, I have bought 2x F1s and a ns6 and this Native Instruments/Numark customer would like my platters to be HID enabled PLEASE.
