Old schooler needs a recommendation

Hello DJTT,

Looking to up date my gear a bit. I’m currently have 2x CDJ-1000 MK3’s, 2x 1200’s and a Pioneer DJM-3000.
The thing I’m looking to update most is the mixer. The faders are going, lot’s of static ect. The CDJ’s are a bit outdated and the 1200’s ain’t going no where =).

Pretty much a bedroom DJ, will do one or two house parties for friends during the summer. This is a hobby for me if that means anything in terms of a recommendation.

So the question would be, buy a new standalone mixer? Or keep current decks and update to a controller and use my 1200’s when I want?

Matt

What’s your budget?

Ah yes, I frogot about that Important detail.

Let’s say we cap it at $1200 or so. Little more or less should be ok. Of course less is always nice.

Matt

You won’t replace the CDJs for that, but maybe the mixer. Depends what you want, really. I’d suggest going for the Xone:stuck_out_tongue:X5.

Thoughts about going the controller route then?

If that’s what you want. You’ll probably need to have a laptop, though. Only other real options are the DDJ-RX line… or the DDJ-1000. I think that should be in budget (I’m UK based, and you could probably find it for just over a grand GBP).

Sorry I should really added more details to the question… I have a loptop running Traktor.

For your budget, I’d recommend the DDJ-1000. It’s standalone, and similar to your current setup. If you want to stick with Traktor, you could get the S8 and run timecode with your 12x0s and CDJs. S8 comes with full Traktor Scratch, including the records/CDs.

EDIT: and you’d have some cash spare to expand your setup with something like a drum machine or Maschine Jam…

I’m clearly bad at this :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:, I also a S6.. Gonez on me

What if I was to expand the budget to $2k

Ddj 1000 looks interesting.

You won’t get much more from the controller side, even with the increased budget. If you go the Traktor route, S8 + 12x0s + CDJs with timecode will do you right. If not, the DDJ-1000 can replace everything.

What mixer would you recommend in that situation?

Xone:stuck_out_tongue:X5. Traktor Scratch certified, effects, rock solid. REVIEW: Allen & Heath Xone:PX5 Mixer – DJWORX

Thanks for helping me narrow things down.
With these options I lean toward the controller a bit more. I’m not sure how I feel about rekord box tho. I downloaded it last night. Will have to play a bit more and see how I like it.

There’s also a small part of me that wants a nice rotary mixer.

The DDJ-1000 only needs rekordbox for exporting to USB…

Leaning toward that DDJ-1k

a billion options

shit just grab a rane 68 i personally haven’t owned that mixer but rane ttm56’s faders i always loved the no contact and curves you can set on em. I personally would save mad cash buy a djm-600 and a hardware drum machine or synth cause them 1200’s always be proper but computers are being moved away from as hardcore as possible. Plus all my famous fucktards of friends be playing angry birds or working on shit. Scream at the next famous dj what game you playing.. lol you will prolly get a answer if he looks like he’s just ableton clippin

Damn…you waited 5 years before posting your first post and came up with this?
