Onesheet.com....Your Impressions?

Onesheet.com…Your Impressions?

Hey guys, after reading the latest article on the home page about Onesheet.com, it sounds like a pretty cool site IMO.

For those that have not read it yet:

Its a great way to market yourself and get all your DJ related stuff in one place.

I’ve started working on mine, I’m not finished yet, still got a few more things to tweak, but so far I’m digging it. You can check it out if you want,

So what are your thoughts? Yay or Nay?

not a bad idea i suppose, even if it is more or less a stripped down myspace.

they really fucked the sheep with the soundcloud widget though, didn’t they do ANY testing to make sure it doesn’t cover every other window? talk about amateur hour.

it has potential, but at the moment basically sucks.

I use http://flavors.me/ (you can see mine in my sig, “website”)

Same exact aggregation concept, seems better imo.

is

not the same thing ??? (but better looking IMO)

great tool, thanks for the heads up

Wix is Flash web sites so that will die – who wants to exclude the biggest growing platform for web site browsing…

I think those solutions are neat but will never beat a custom-made own web site for many reasons:

  • You control the destiny, those solutions might either die due to lack of funding or be swamped with ads at some point (start to look like MySpace pages…)
  • You have a better hit rate with custom made web sites with your domain
  • Let’s say Google+ takes off like a wild storm, with your web site you could control the use of it instead of waiting for solutions from sites that have template solutions
  • Similarly if there are more and more Soundcloud widgets (which I suspect will happen) or widgets pointing back at your music for sale (Bandcamp et rest), you could control the use of such widgets and web services
  • Or you wake up 3am and have a great idea how to get people attending your shows with a cross-social network service that you invented…
  • There’s something that tells the customer that someone takes this thing professionally by putting effort into their own web site

But the design layout ideas are good – i.e. keep it simple and clean.

you can use your own domain with WIX, and you dont get any advertising or hint that it is a WIX website
(unless someones seen the template that you used on it)
but of course you gotta pay a premium for it…

thanks for the advise as i dont know what to do, ive got a domain already
(i might change it) ive been sitting on the fence for ages not knowing which website host to commit too. WIX looked cool and some really good templates for someone like me that cant use code or program in anyway,
this ONESHEET looks pretty cool and simple and catered more for the likes of us fellow djs, but ill have too look at it more, i would certinaly want to use my own domain and have none of that ONESHEET/MYPAGE.COM thing attached to it. id gladly pay a premium to have my own domain.

so im very intrested to see what other people make of the site and what they come up with styles/layouts etc and howmuch freedom one has to tweek/customise there page…

its one to watch for sure…

Still think a wordpress site is with a decent template is the way forward

Agreed…not on the Wordpress domain either…buck up and buy your own domain name; Much better for SEO.

I like onesheet for its simplicity, but definitely wish it was more customizable. Also, it now allows for custom URLs.
My Onesheet

Hi guy’s, I emailed the guy from Onesheet and he quoted “Dont worry about ads. Not going to happen.” He is also working on a fix for the Soundcloud widget covering the content issue in the next few days.
Cheers, Maxiboy.

Message from the Onesheet creator

Hey guys,

I figured I should throw in some thoughts on the comments here. I created Onesheet.

First, I really really really appreciate you guys spending time talking about this. It’s incredible to get user feedback.

I’ll try to address some of the concerns. Please feel free to email me at info@onesheet.com to talk more.

Soundcloud Widget
Onesheet has been launched for over a month and this is the first I’m hearing of this widget problem. It’s just a bug, and it’s top of the priority list to fix. I tried some fixes this evening, but it doesn’t seem like they’ve helped, but this will get fixed.

Ads
There won’t be ads on Onesheet.

Custom Domains
You can use your own domain for Onesheet

Onesheet Branding
You can remove the Onesheet header bar

Onesheet’s Age
Onesheet is barely a month old. The other services that have been called better have been around for years. I’m not going to take it as an insult that they are better, as they’ve had more time to listen to users and adapt. That’s what I’m doing now with Onesheet. Instead of just saying they’re better, I’d love any feedback about why (some of you have already given it - THanks!). Onesheet says “BETA” for a reason. It’s still evolving.

Hope that helps! Email me with any issues!

can’t wait to make a profile today… will report back later.

if you own a domain name, just point the dns server to your onesheet.com/yourpage

Hey Brenden, thanks for updating us with your post.

My main question is what is One Sheet offering that’s different from what’s already out there? What are you bringing to the table that unique? As you said, there already are “aggregation” websites out there, most of them with more experience and less bugs. Why should I switch from flavors.me to your site?

However, I do understand that more competition does make the product better. Please do not take this the wrong way! Just asking for some feedback. I personally love these websites because they look so minimal and are very powerful tools. Good luck with One Sheet man!

Thanks for the note. I think products need to be built specifically for musicians, and Flavors was built for people. I might have missed a lot of good examples (and please send any you find) but I just haven’t seen good pages that highlights songs and video in the right way. There are a lot of bells and whistles, but I dont think I’ve seen something that addresses the musicians in the same way as Onesheet.

I think it’s a great idea

I’m a web developer by trade and have thought about doing something similar, but the problem is marketing it right - get that and you’ll be rich in no time mate

have to look into it, looks pretty good

what i mean is, i want (www.)mypage.com thats it…
thats what ill pay extra for as long as there is no advertising either
i dont want onesheet.com/mypage
im a noob at this web stuff and maybe im misunderstanding what you say.

basically all i want is a web host or at least a space that is mine with my name on it that will allow me to easily to update and customise my page. i have facebook, soundcloud, hotmail, msm, skype, youtube and other services and onesheet looks like a great site for the likes of me,
easy to set up and connect to all your other bits and bobs to self update.

the idea of the website is really cool Bren and ill be watching and waiting to see how much you will charge for the premium side of it,
im sure that without advertising, you’ll have to make money some how and people like me would pay to use there own domain, and if you could provide them that would be even better…

but then again, if OneSheet really takes off it may be considered cool to have a one sheet page and having the onesheet.com/mypage
because if it takes off (and i hope it does) it may become the norm, just like the saying FIND US ON FACEBOOK
instead people may say my one sheet is MYNAME find me.
that could be real cool too

wish you all the best with the project Bren.

ps. i wish you facebook like success, but man i hope you dont go adding farm town/ville apps to the site lol
