Hey fellas check out DJ Immortal’s vid. Pretty dope…this dude is the head instructor at Scratch Academy Miami and does alot of promoting for DJ’s down here so I thought I’d post his vid here. Pretty bad ass routine. Ritchie Ruftone also dropped a sick one. Take a few minutes a vote.
Also there was a thread recently that asked do turntables get more respect and I honestly think it’s because of these routines and the physical movements it takes that they do. Awesome work.
So did he just prepare two seperate tracks and set it up so it could cut back and forth between the 2 decks? I dont see him loading any tracks up. Is it DVS?
Maybe he has used the cruise control or something?
I still find it weird that dmcs went digital…there is a skill to cueing up the records and keeping the needle from skipping…though I can’t scratch like that YET…immortal is still dope though
No disrespect to people who mash buttons but you seriously can’t compare turntablism to mashing buttons. The skill that takes to do that on TT’s is outstanding!
Very good point. I agree to some extent, but controllerism and Turntableism are the same thing like apples and oranges are both fruit.
I think of turntableism like people playing the same instrument. Everyone learns the same notes, scales, etc and the instrument is basically the same. So it is easy to distinguish the great artists from the mediocre. With Controllerism, everyone is using different instruments/controllers, software, etc. So there are no standard moves like baby scratch, crabs, etc.
I think Ean and Edison and others have done some impressive routines, but I really can’t compare them to DMC style routines, because they are 2 different things. Which doesn’t mean one takes any less skill or practice than the other. It’s just easier IMO to understand the skill involved in a DMC routine, because it is easier to see the physical movement and understand what it is doing to the sound you are hearing.
