Open Decks Nights

I thought it would be great to start listing “Open Decks Nights” available in the different cities we live in. It seems like a great way gain confidence in front of crowds. I am looking to do so myself.

To kick things off, here’s a night available if you live in London.

God i did a couple of those back in the day. JEsus what a nightmare it was. You get guys that have not a fucking clue how to mix. or the guy who spins nothing but terrorcore or speedcore, or godforbid pisscore(look it up its real I swear to christ its real).

haha I did one of these in a uppity lounge full of yuppies. and one guy was spinning straight deathcore/murder house. Hilarious

Hilarious… Sounds like there is comedy value as well.
That being said though we all gotta start somewhere. And for me, something like this would be great

Thanks for that, it’s only round the corner from me (ish, i live in Camden), might give it a shot in a few weeks for the crack, not got any gigs until March - still don’t know many people down here.

I wonder what their stance on controllers is.

Good question.
Its also another good way to meet other DJ’s on this forum and you can actually see how people are mixing (live) differently to how you personally do so

Probably should put some limits in place. A friend of mine has a bar w/ open mic, and he has to explicitly state no Jam Sessions, a time limit on each song. No speed limit really, but it would probably apply here.

The place I mentioned before had a 30 min time slot and would call you back later depending on the reaction of the crowd. It definately makes sense

This is a great idea I wish they had this in Los Angeles. I have started my own DJ group trying to unite all EDM DJs together. The group is doing pretty good I always try to stay active and weed out all the slackers. If anyone is from LA and wants to join you can check it out Meetup | Group not found

I also think 30 minutes is not enough time. I think 1hr would be perfect. I mean how many songs can you play in 30 minutes? Maybe 4? How do you determine a good dj vs a bad dj with 4 songs? At least with 1 hour you will have the time to show your creative edge. I usually give minimum of 1 hrs slots when booking DJs.

Depends what you’re spinning. Hip-Hop/Top 40 will get you around 8-10. Probably more if you drop a quick edit.

Playing only 4 in 30 min your not going to do much mixing if each song is going to be 6 mins :smiley: only filtering and fxing. thats not mixing but DJ’ing :smiley:
