Opener for a Nu Disco set?

I’m playing a local bar this weekend and doing a Nu disco set as the night is called “Discember” (see what I did there?!! :smiley:) where my mate is opening with classic original disco and me and a mate are closing with a messed up nu disco set.

What I need is an opener as I want something either film related (some dialogue etc) or from a song to do with disco that I can lay with some intro type thing before my first beat kicks in? Any ideas?

Also if someone has a link to anything that would be able to be downloaded or get get for me as I have little or nothing to be able to do that with, would be much appreciated?

Check out Palermo Disko Machine - Theme from Palermo Disko Machine. Starts off with a load of drones (good for delineating sets, you can stick your own drop samples over the top, then kicks like a disco mule).

that really is one amazingly dull intro!

Sounds cool when you play it really loud. I actually use it at the end of sets, so I’d loop a four/four and fade it out as this comes in. If I felt it was taking too long, I’d skip forward 32 beats a few times, then boom!

I suppose it depends how bonkers the Nu Disco is going at the end, but I’d start off with this bad boi!

You might also want to see Palermo’s older ep from back in the Digitalism days a few years ago. At the time they went by Palermo Disco Machine (with a “c”). Both tracks on it are fantastic, one has a spoken word break in the middle that remains one of my favorite samples ever. The ep is also a really good example of how old and new disco were bridged.

i started off with the beginning sample of the track Silver Krystal by Silver Disco. It has a really cool sample of some guy talking about disco. I played that then looped the last word “play” and went into my first songs buildup. the intro sample/song i used is below and my mix is below as well. Hope this helps…

Awesome responses and tunes peeps, thanks muchly. Love the Soulwax remix of the Walter Murphy classic, that has to go in some in the set for def. I will check out the other samples when I get home from work but cheers for all the tips.
