original sounds or remixes?

I’d like to start producing some electro or possibly moombahton and was wondering, from an experienced standpoint, is it easier to make your own music or create a remix? I’d like to think remixes are less complicated but I don’t think that is the case, I just hate hearing songs and thinking “Wow that would be a good song to remix.”

Depends on how deep you want to get in it. I’m drumming on my desk at work right now making music, same goes for a program like ableton. You can hammer out a track, but how involved you want to get will decide if remixing is easier. Are you looking to use something like ableton, fruityloops or reason?

well i was able to pump out an adele remix (moombahton cause u mentioned it) in 2 days…usually takes me a week to make originals

I find originals take more time souly cause u gotta come up with melodies n stuff

I’m currently using Ableton. Well, I wouldn’t call it using, more like experimenting and figuring out how everything works. I know there’s tutorials but I like to look around first.

2 days… Not bad. Got a link for it? I’d like to give it a listen. And did you sample the drums or make your own sound?
Edit: Checked out your sound cloud, nice work on those tracks. Are you from NJ by any chance?

i use sampled drums from diffrent things

i am

its probably just different skills. i find remixing to be easier too but thats simply because alot of the work has already been done. to really put out a remix that is worth listening too can range from easy to almost impossible. it all depends on the source and whether you got the stems or just the track.

it just depends. once you start thinking in terms of remixing that will be easier, but if you wrap your brain around the idea of doing original stuff than that will be easier as well. the first remix i did was sub par at best and it took me a week to do, and now some of my best remixes get done in a few hours. once i started thinking about music in terms or remixing then it all became clear.

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone, I was just messing around in Ableton and made a quick little Moombahton beat. I was going to make it into my first song, but changed directions and decided to do a remix of this song:

Not sure what it is about the song, but it’s catchy. Hopefully i’ll stick with it and finish it off. In the process of sampling the acapella I found for it on another site.

feeling your stuff, bro
