OT: F*ck You I Wont Do What (Simon Cowell) Told Me.

Im sure that you guys are aware of this but i think its significant to warrant a thread.

Every year in UK the Xmas Number 1 is an X-Factor single.
The Xmas number 1 is a UK tradition that no matter how cool you are or what your into, everyone wants to know what it is even if it is out of curiosity. We were all kids once and back then it seemed important.

This year a Facebook campain has reclaimed the Xmas Number 1 with possibly the most apt song.

Of course the subject matter of this song is much more serious than battling some kids for the Number 1 spot (so no political rants needed) .
Tom Morello from the band was interviewed this week about the use of the song for this project and he said he was proud to be a part of it and the whole “Fuck You” to Simon Cowell and the music machine he represents.

No matter what your opinion on the tune you cant help thinking that this is a major result and a kick in the eye for the constant stream of commercial piss that occupies the charts.

Of course the REAL winners are EMI who released the single which was priced at a loss leader of 29pence. Far less than the £3.99 that the X Factor single costs.

Im certainly no music snob. I like it when people like Sir Cliff Richard are number 1 at Xmas , anything other than the usual suspects but this is genius.

THE UK XMAS NUMBER 1 IS — RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - KILLING IN THE NAME .
Well Done to those that made this possible.

That is fantastic. This made my week.

Rap Metal FTW!

I bought it and Im glad to be part of giving two fingers to Simon Cowell, hes such a nob.

haha, oh wow. it’s always nice when things like this get pulled off. thank you social networking

Just saw this story on nightline. Damn i was headbanging and sculling vodka to this tune god knows how many years ago when it came out. I bet the suicide rate in the UK skyrockets after being subjected to christmas songs like that little dick was parroting. Hats off to Sony, well played.
Also i’d like to apologise for my country inadvertently starting the whole “pop stars” type show. about 2 years or so before american idol etc started we had a similar show here, and of course the idea got taken, as well as the theme tune. All our “pop stars” are always signing autographs down at the dole office :stuck_out_tongue:

So happy when I heard this; the fact I love Rage Against The Machine helps too but I can’t express my hatred for X-Factor enough

Yeah i think we in UK got in there a tad earlier.
NZ Idol started in 2004.
UKs Pop Idol started in 2001.

We have peddled piss to the rest of the world for a long time

Hehe. I think it started before all that even, we had a series called popstars or something back in 98 or 99, they made a fake ass girl band called “true bliss”, same formula thats used for all these type of shows. One semi successful album then you never hear of them again eh :stuck_out_tongue:
This is NZ talent at its best folks, behold…

OMG your right. The Southern Hemisphere started all this… Damn you, you crazy upside down people !!!

And survivor. sorry :stuck_out_tongue:

And to think ive always had a lot of respect for NZ as a nation:confused:

Nation of criminals, or is that only australia?

Aussie is the continent sized Britsh prison. NZ is the little turd Britain popped out lol

I agree with your initial post Karlos, although I have read that Simon Cowel has a small finger in the pie on the Rage track too which makes me think it’s a win-win for him yet again.

I prefer the ‘good ole days’ when Christmas records were proper Christmas records. Showing my age a bit here, but when I was young I got a battery operated record deck - A briefcase affair with the lid of the brief case being the speaker. Unfortunately my parents only got me one record to play all over Christmas.

The year was 1973 and that single was Slade’s - Merry Christmas Everybody.

Now, that record has been played to death since and was by me too that Chritmas, but it is a PROPER Christmas track and you can keep the trashy X-Factor pony for all I care.

I was listening to the chart yesterday evening waiting for the result. I honestly didnt think rage would do it, but they did!

It’s a pretty good turn out really, over 500,000 download sales in a week, most profit of which is going to a homeless help charity in the UK. Plus Rage are going to do a FREE thank-you gig in the UK next year. Hurray for us.

Rage performed Killing in the name on Radio 5 Live (Which i’m pretty sure is the BBC’s sports radio channel :confused:slight_smile: in the week to promote the campaign. They told them not to do all the swearing at the end, but they did anyway, live on daytime radio. Pretty funny.

They chat about all their politics stuff up until about 4.14 when they start the song. Ignore the crappy sound quality and wait for the “FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME” at the end. They censored the video, but it wasn’t so censored on the live show

ahhhh that was nice.

I mean, did they think they were going to do as they told them? I would have been so angry if they had censored the whole song…

Yeah it was pretty stupid of the BBC people to think they wouldn’t scream out “fuck you i wont do what you tell me”. I mean surely they could have predicted the impending irony they were about to experience.

Does anyone feel a bit sorry for that Joe guy? I mean i know he’s just another average singer the X-Factor has spewed out. And he didnt even write his christmas song. But he’s getting alot of abuse when really it’s not his fault :stuck_out_tongue: He just entered a reality show. The Simon Cowell abuse is alright though, he’s a massive douche bag. A british paper quoted him saying that he didnt care if Joe was number one or not he’d still making a load of money. Common Simon, seriously…

Yeah because of his involvement in the record company. He stands to make little if no money.

And, this isnt about whos making the money it has far more significant value.

Which ever way you slice it and dice it this is an utter embarrassment to Simon Cowell and the X-Factor machine.
This series was the most watched ever but he cant manage to get the Single to number 1 in front of a Facebook campaign. This must show him that his franchise is nothing more than car-crash TV.

Cowell believes his own hype. He genuinely thinks he is doing “Music” in general a favour by introducing these awful acts.

He claims to be knowledgeable about music yet in the last show one of the contestants sang Journey - Dont Stop Believing and Cowell praised him on singing a “Not very well known” song. Everybody knows that song, but worse than that the re-release was actually at No 19 in the UK charts that week so he isnt even knowledgeable about the precise area he claims to be .

Hes made a lot of money making music but if his wealth was equated to quality (and i even mean average pop quality) his bank account would be full of Dog Shit instead of money…

Although, i do think Leona Lewis has a great voice. Nice rack as well:smiley:

Did you see his Mum..? Proper show-biz pushy mum that cried anytime a camera was on her.

Feel sorry for him… NO.
He wanted to be singer all his life apparently. I cant feel sorry for someone that didnt get something that they werent “entitled” to just because he , his mum and X-Factor thought it was a given.

Fuck em. I wanted that stupid girl to win anyway. She was ace. Imagine a Labrador that could talk. Thats her.
A talking dog just splattering words and barks out at random. Bless her.
She has kids as well , she would have deserved the money .

She had a nice shelf as well:smiley:

I love RATM, their first and second albums are really powerful.

I don’t know who that Cowell guy is… but f*** him haha!

In Spain we have something like american idol and lots of stars come up from that horrible music making machine. I feel like an alien when I see those things… and very ashamed of being human. How can people like that music?..
