OT - I’m looking for someone to help with logo design
Anyone out there dealt with someone who they would recodmend. Basically just looking for a fairly simple 1980’s inspired affair.
do you need a pro or just someone who wants to make something for fun.

I did use 99designs.com with great success, and I’d highly recommend using it.

well its something a bit topical not, although its been around my head for a while. But verymuch along the old electroy Tron form the 80’s lines.
I really need to put some effort into getting to grips with photoshop, I just cant find the time.

Free logos, is a no go.

depends… if you find a nobody with no demo reel or no real clients… then he should be begging to do a free logo.. especially if making logos is like what djing is for some people. You have to get your foot in the door somehow.. and this is the best way to do it. Its a cliche way of getting free work.. and honestly.. if the logo works.. and you really end up liking it.. then you throw some $
All depends on what the end goal is to justify. Your more likely to get better work for free than a low ball number.
When I was working as a senior producer for mtv germany… all the freelancers who wanted work.. would do alot of stuff for free.. Its a sad cycle but.. hungry designers will starve themselves to get their foot in the door… and we never had a short supply of people willing to bend over backwards to do free logos.
the bonus for them is they could put the logo on their demo reel if we used it

im in the middle of making a logo for my macbook.. and the simplest job can be as stressfull as the most complicate…
What I do is go to 1001fonts.com and you can preview the text in any font you choose… then download it for free.. and use that as a base to start with
It is one way, but I’d hardly say it’s the best way. It’s like telling the creative energy that spins the world around that your OK to work hard with only a hope shot at financial reward. This can turn into a lifetime of perpetual hope shots robbing an artist of producing true creative energy trying to please others rather than finding a mutual ebb and flow of sustenance.
I got paid for my first Logo in 6th Grade. I asked my aunt who did logo design what she charged for logos. She said $300 to $500 dollars. So I asked for $250 dollars and got $25 instead. That was in 1986.
One thing that has always annoyed me about the masses view of making art, is that artists who seem to make it look simple are expected to dish it out at bargain rates or for free. The observers fail to see that what an artist makes look easy, has taken them their entire experience as an artist to produce in such a manner.
That being said, there are many willing to shell out free art, no doubt. Some who are just learning or establishing themselves, and others addicted to the hope shot. My original comment was only, claiming “I” would not, yet for the right price, or trade, I would definitely consider it. It was more or less an offer.

Yeah I agree 100%.. same goes with 3d animation or directing or compositing.
logos is just one tiny part of the equation with alot of peoples expectations.
Like… make me a logo… that should 1) be recognizable on a small stamp.
2) must work in Black and white(for faxing)
3) has an animation or the ability to work within an animation
4) logo needs a sound
5)etc etc
If your in the game for awhile… you know that 80 percent of the time… you dont get money for the time waiting/trying to read the clients mind/ And every client whether its your best friend/aunt or uncle or any company starting out… they all feel they need to put some fingerprint DNA stamp on the logo your making.. so They will make corrections sometimes(not always) just because..
And this is the norm in the industry for freelancers… It only takes one time of this to help the logo designer avoid doing a freebee.

and I didnt get a single penny for.. all I got was the pat on the shoulder and some free records
