OT: iPhone 4, Data, Apps

Hey everyone, i’m finally considering upgrading my iPhone (original), it’s starting to show it’s age in terms of speed and with iOS4 being completely unsupported it’s time. Mine’s unlocked and jailbroken so i’ve never actually had a data plan since Rogers (Canada) data plans are lame. So my question is what size of data plan do you have (ex. 500MB, 1GB), what’s your primary use and is it sufficient.

Also I was thinking about this scenario today. Let’s say your browsing eBay on safari on the iPhone, would that use more data then using the eBay app on the iPhone? My thoughts behind this are that safari would have to load a lot more text and graphics from ads and what not, where as the app would be pretty stripped down to the bare essentials therefore loading less graphics and text.

i got unlimited data (at&t), ~$30/month isn’t bad for what it is.

same att unlimited data, no tehtering, not jailbroken

I need the unlimited for $30 or else I wouldn’t think the iPhone would be worth it.

So how much call/text credit do you get with that 30 $ deal? Im not in the us, just interest..

5gb data, text is $20 for unlimited. soooo its $50 for text & data, plus you need to add the voice plan. i have 450 min @ $40. I get a discount thru my employer so i get i think 15 or 20 bux off.

Youre joking, right? Thats 90 bux per month for a phone! F’in much!

Im not joking, most people in the states pay anywhere from 100 - 140 for the iPhone. Keep in mind we only have one carrier, so its take it or leave it. Unless you go with T-Mobile, by unlocking your phone.

My phone bill is about $320 a month for five phones, three of those being iPhones. If your around WIFI a lot that will decrease your data usage quite a bit.

Why 5 phones though? In holland iPhone has 1 carrier for 30-40 $.. including unlimited internet use 3g

sj03w4t, keep your eyes peeled for wimax carriers.

Hey peeps, hadn’t seen it mentioned yet, but it should be said that at&t has discontinued their unlimited data plan for new subscribers. The new rates are $15 for 200MB/mo. and $25 for 2GB/mo.

Even with pretty intensive use, I still only manage to average about 125 mb of use every month. I’m on wifi at home and most other houses I visit, but all the rest is over 3g and I do quite a bit of surfing. So, I’ve decided that I’m going to go with the $25 2gb plan just in case and put the woman on the $15 200mb plan, which will cut the bill by 20 bucks a month. It’s only $10 if you go over and need 3gb, so either way I’m still saving money over the unlimited. Might get tethering for the lappy, but I still really doubt that I would use over 2gb only because most of the places that I would setup would either have wifi or would be places I would only need a quick e-mail check not full on browsing anyway.

and yes, the apps would have way less mb usage that going to the site because you would bypass a lot of the extra crap and get right down to the meat of things.

  1. Me (iPhone)
  2. Wife (iPhone)
  3. 15 year old son (iPhone)
  4. 11 year old daughter
  5. 148 year old mother in law

Date usage in order goes son (texting) , wife (facebook), me (email/work) daughter (texting), finishing out with mother in law who has 0 kb per month data. We’re all pretty close to the data cutoff, or over in the case of my son, so I’m going to keep us on unlimited for as long as I can.

Oh i get it i thought you had 5 phones.. lol

Camping a week early for the new iPhone, not crazy. Camping for a week in 100 degree temps with 80-90% humidity , CRAZY!!!

iOS4 just went live in my iTunes. I’m downloading the update now.

Got my new iPhone today. No pre-order hassle, lines, or waiting. Best Buy called me last night and said they would have a few extra. Set up an appointment at 11:00 walked out of the store at 11:15 with my new iPhone.
