no.

how long must you have lived under a rock to not know what 2.0, 2.1 and 5.1 means?
(im not pointing out the kid from the other thread, he just reminded me of it.)

I, in a class room of ~30 students knew what to say when my italian (class) teacher was messing with the settings on a dvd and asked “whats italian 2.0 and 5.1?”

alright, i suppose that can slide. i guess you dont learn this until you buy speakers. fine. i understand that. maybe the first couple of lines were a bit harsh.

but the next day she asked the same thing.

Italian 2.0 is what they speak in Italy. 5.1 is what they speak in Philly.

As someone that works in the audio video industry i can understand where you are coming from…

But then again I know that people aren’t as passionate about the same things we are, hence why they need to call on us for help in those ways. I’ve had hundreds of clients that call me in the middle of their big money conferences because they are scared to switch between powerpoint presentations or that they simply need me to actually load the presentation onto a computer from a flash drive. Fear of getting something wrong generally creates some pretty ridiculous circumstances, and not a lot of people actively spend time expanding their general knowledge. Look at Jersey Shore man, millions upon millions of people would rather watch that crap than actually reading a book, or looking up something that interests them online. Why? because it’s easier.

TL;DR

Give the majority a chance to be lazy and they’ll take it. Inspire them, and watch them grow on their own.
