Ot; sony hacked again

ot; sony hacked again

not PSN this time though, but lulzsec has just tweeted;

dear, oh dear

this is just getting crazy

I really have no sympathy for sony. imo, theyre so far up their own ass they can’t see daylight.

From their racist advertising campaigns to the millionth redesign of the PSP they constantly alienate their customer base and destroy their revenue. They gonna do the same thing this E3 too so they desereve everything they get.

seems to be a bit up/down, but this is where they’ve posted info/links etc http://lulzsecurity.com/releases/
read how they did it to, tbh sounds like sony kind of asked for it… i don’t support their actions, but a bit of chaos is always fun to watch

This is just plain crazy! Who the hell did Sony piss off?

Estimated cost to Sony (so far) is ‘about’ $150 million.

I really don’t understand this?! WHy do people keep hacking into companies like this? Different with the Anonymous group a few months ago as they were targetting anti-WikiLeaks, i.e. anti-free speech supporters/sponsors so tehre was a clear agenda.

Things like this I completely don’t understand. Sony lose lots of money, yes. They’re shocked into action, yes. However, they won’t go bust because they’re far too big a company. And how will they attempt to recover losses imposed due to these hacks? By upping the prices more than likely causing us innocent and genuine customers to have to fork out more for thing due to hacking idiot’s actions.

That’s my opinion anyway on this kind of mindless and reckless IT hacking without any real or valid agenda or reason.

Apparently they do it for the lolz

lulz

anon attacked sony because they were keeping people from doing what they wanted to their won property.

sony wasnt letting people mod their ps3s and such, so some guy haced into the code or some crap and essentially unlocked it like you would an iphone.

sony took legal action and the war began.

if i find the call to arms image/statement ill post it

wasn’t it a sub group of anon? read somewhere they denied it. But tbh that prob don’t stand for much…

anon has no central place, thus its quite disorganized

i really dont think there could possible be a ‘sub group’

see call to arms pic on 4chan, blog, etc.
take part?

yes
no

see on news
(continue to) take part?

yes
no

legal action threats

specific person
group of anonymous untraceable people behind 6 proxies

company attacks specific person

screw it
time for round 2

by that point itll probably fade out

EDIT: and that was my 3.5k post. lololol

yeah I know they’re disorganised. I meant there was a statement somewhere that a few ‘members’ from the whole might have done it, but they wouldn’t confirm either way.

But I really don’t get the logic.

I agree that what Geohot did regarding the PS3 should be allowed. He basically wrote code, put it on a USB device and it changed the PS3’s firmware into one that allowed you to run homebrew and pirated games. The arguement is that once you buy the PS3, then it’s your property to do what you want to it, which I agree with if all you’re doing is modding your own item. However, then releasing it into the wild and opening the industry to mass piracy is not such a straightforward dispute and I can see the arguements from both sides. If he would have simply put out tutorials on how to mod the code, thus being a lesson in coding for other users, then it would be different to what he did, which was simply directly uploading the files to abuse the PS3 and create loopholes for piracy (even though he’s said piracy was not his intention). Teach the man to fish etc etc…and it would have made them stronger and less vulnerable to action from Sony.

Sony have simply acted against him for releasing the code files for direct general public use, therefore damaging the gaming industry. I understand why they have done this because if everyone pirated games, it obviously results in a loss of earnings for the console/gaming machine makers as well as the game developers, which has resulted in companies going bust in previous years. And, as it’s a business, it’s only fair they make a profit too as they’re ultimately inventing unique things to fill gaps in people’s lives, giving them a sense of fun, enjoyment and escapism.

To then have cyber groups attacking Sony because of the action against Geohot, resulting in loss of money to Sony, is no better than what Sony are doing to Geohot, and worse if anything as Sony are thinking of themselves first and foremost, but also of the gaming industry. Hackers are simply thinking of themselves and nobody else as general consumers then just get hit with the bill of the hackers’ actions.

To me, I understand why Sony took Geohot to court for releasing the code into the wild, and I understand why Geohot’s buddies would want revenge, but the way they go about it is not the right way and is, bluntly, being very selfish and letting Joe Bloggs to foot the bill for their childish and reckless tit-for-tat actions.

But as BBC news stories go, it makes a change from the normal depressing stuff
