OT: When you first started…

Like when you first started to get into DJ’ing, how did you make your money to get your gear??

I ask cause like with the economy the way it is Im looking for ideas. its hard to find a Job in the bay area lol.

I spent basically all the money I had from working over summer on new gear and just hoped that gigs would end up paying them off. Got lucky with a couple and broke even.

Alternatively, you could apply to be a sperm donor. I hear they make tons of money!

birthday/ holiday money

The clubs always had the gear, this was 20 years ago though.

[/quote] I wish it was like that now. I mean shit closest club is sf. or oakland.

Where in the bay area are you located?

i was 14 yrs old, i wanted to buy 1200’s, my dad got me a part time job for spring break. I made $450.00 and my pops put the difference when I found some used one’s in the pennysaver

I used up the remainder of my settlement money from being hit by a car and bought the S4.

The American dream!

worked as a typist for a law firm. bought my 1º numark mixer that way

'merca FTW

Me personally I got my first set of belt drive tables and a pos mixer from an older kid for a mexican strat that I had. This was back in 95 or so. Also more ot, but if you are 21, willing to work (ie lift heavy ass shit all day) and not afraid of heights, the natural gas industry is booming out in western PA and in the TX panhandle/Western OK area. just an idea…

from my dayjob

I had to work and save almost every penny for all my gear, unfortunately had to sell off a bunch of stuff (Tech 1200s, MPC 2000XL, Microkorg, but kept all my guitars) for school and am in the process of saving up again for a Kontrol S4. If you look hard enough I’m sure you’ll find a job, I washed dishes for a couple years and worked my way up to a waiter and was raking in the cash before the economy went to shit, if you’re motivated you’ll find a way.
