PA system Help

hey,

I’ve recently gotten into sound systems and PA’s as I am DJ looking to put on small live events (50 - 75 people) on at my home.

I have recently Purchased two Peavey Pro15 passive speakers, along with a Behringer PMP1280S mixer/amp from a friend.

The sound is decent from this set up, however I’m looking for something stronger. So I turned my attention to purchasing 2 more Peavey Pro 15 passive speakers and 2 Peavey Messenger Pro Sub’s.

So my first question would be, is the amp I currently own (Behringer PMP1280S) powerful enough to power on it’s own 4 Peavey Pro 15 passive speakers? Because I’m looking to buy the 2 extra pro 15 speakers a couple of months prior to getting the subs and I want to know if what I have already will be enough to power them in parallel.

My second and final question is what amps and mixer would you recommend using for the final setup (4x pro 15 speakers 2xMessenger pro subs) As the entire business is one that I find deeply confusing and I’m unsure were to start.

I don’t want to be destructive, but have you thought about putting the same amount of money into something with a more decent quality? I’d say you get much more if you would buy something like the established RCF ART 312ers and add a single sub once you feel like needing it.

Something important to understand is that simply buying more speakers is not the correct path to go down if you want a “stronger system”. Sticking multiple speakers next to each other and pointing them at the same area is a sure fire way to ruin sound quality, as it creates comb filtering, where the sound from each speaker interferes with each other, cancelling out some frequencies while boosting others depending on how in or out of phase the sound waves are. Each section of the audience should really be covered by just one speaker, with the next speaker place where the coverage of that speaker begins to end. If this is not loud enough then you have the wrong speakers/ amps and need to buy a more powerful system.
