Paid Work - DJ song preparation in Rekordbox and Ableton

Hi there,

I DJ in either Ableton or on CDJs.

I have a bunch of songs I need prepared for DJing. I usually do this myself however do not have the time to go through all my library. How much would someone charge ($US) per track to do either or both tasks as listed below?

I’ve looked on oDesk and eLance for contractors to do this to no avail.

An example of the process to be done is:

Rekordbox

  • Warp song in Rekordbox
  • Set start point
  • Set 3 or 4 cue points
  • Assign a colour to the track based on BPM
  • Rename the file song title with BPM, Key and Song Name

Ableton

  • Warp song
  • Set start point
  • Insert loop for last 8 bars of track
  • Assign a colour to the track based on BPM
  • Rename the file song title with BPM, Key and Song Name

Any feedback would be welcomed.

Cheers,
Gregor

I’ll do the Ableton workflow for $1 per song if you want and $0.75 per song if there’s more than 100 songs.

lol. Didn’t some guy come through here to advertise his services for this stuff?

I’ll take some Ableton work off you (in addition to chromatome) if you’re in a rush…

I think i remember that post, was it this page he advertised?

Yup looks like it.

free music and money?

damn son

What are you going to use the 4’th cuepoint for ?

Would you like us to play your sets for you too?

Sync already does that for him.

Please don’t.

If you’re not willing to put in the time and effort yourself…

Move aside and let people who are get the gigs. That’s all part of the game really. If you’re not willing to do the work now, will you ever in the future? It’s something very easy to do if you train yourself to it, and it’s part of learning the ins and outs of your own music. You have someone else set your cue-points… you aren’t going to know if they are any good or not.

This whole idea honestly disgusts me.

IMO, If you can’t be arsed or don’t have the time to do this with your library (it takes less than a min per track) then you have more stuff than you should or really need.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

On a serious note, this has been one of the things that has bothered me about digital dj’ing. Songs are so cheap, that I buy way too many. Back in the vinyl days, you weren’t buying marginal 12’s because it was so damn expensive. I can’t even imagine all the people that just steal tunes. Gigs upon gigs of tunes they’ll never play.

It’s not only the price, now you get hundreds of releases a day so selective digging has become a much more time consuming task.

I love DJing, but not the song preparation. If I was short on time I would definitely pay someone to do it for me.

Thank you sir.

Preparing tracks is a chore tho… I do miss vinyl days but also remember never bring satisfied with my collection… Always striving for better / freshet tunes

It takes less than 30 seconds to warp a track in Live and it’s even quicker in Traktor. If you get good, you can do it while performing…
