Pioneer tune...matching..effect...thing

Pioneer VOCODER effect, EFX-1000 + DJM-909

Alright I know (well I’m pretty sure…) Pioneer mixers have this effect that filters one channel through another to achieve a similar tune. I forgot what its called but I’m sure some of you know what I’m talking about.

Do any other mixers or effects units have this?

I have an Ecler mixer and I normally use only Traktor FX but I’d like to buy something simple and add this effect.

Suggestions?

I know I could spend hours searching and finding a few things but I thought I would ask the forums. Thanks for any responses and for saving me time.

Keylock?

No matter how many times i read this post i do not know what you are asking dude.

Spaghetti..?

Two sugars..?

Capricorn..?

Just messing:smiley:

That’s what I had for dinner last night and no matter how cool that is or how tasty it was I don’t think that’s the answer he’s searching for Karlito.

Hmm, but i dont understand the question so Spaghetti is all i got.

I would like to know though… Whats the deal dude?

He means Sidechaining, doesn’t he?

Ah right. Well no there is no compressor in Traktor.
Auto Gain and Limiter but no compression.

Dunno what mixer do have sidechaining unless its a Mic Level talk-over.

“filtering one channel through another to achieve a similar tune” sounds like a vocoder to me. Traktor doesn’t have one of those either.

Yes! Like a vocoder!

Sorry for all the confusion, it hard to explain something when you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Okay so, any mixers besides pioneer an their efx unit have this?

Nominated!

Genius.

What Pio mixers have a vocoder..?
I still think we arent quite there with this question..?

on the djm800 its called harmonic in the color effects… when selected to adjust the color knob of ur required channel and when the leds go green, ur harmonically matched.

sounds good in theory, but in practice its pretty useless

pioneer mixers have a vocoder?

… like turning sounds into music/instruments…?

no, they are talking about harmonic mixing, but using incorrect terminology

I thought he was talking about the Chacaron effect on the DJM mixers

FOUND IT!

I didn’t even think to call it a vocoder. You guys have helped tremendously, now I know what it is!!!

Now…let christmas gift cards come my way. I have a toy to buy.

ah right, sorry guys, i picked up wrongly what you ment, theres a few james zabiela videos on there you’ll want to watch. he pretty much invented doing that shit with an efx

i cant see that being used in any situation.

i mean i can, but not a whole lot

I really wanted to have one to do some fun mash-up sampling toying around at home. If you’re familiar with Steve Porter (slap-chop rap) he uses that effect (not on the rap, but in general) and it seemed like a lot of fun. Thats what threw me on the quest to find out what the heck it was.

I think the DJM-909 is the only pioneer with a vocoder.

Now, anyone here have either? Feedback on the effect would be awesome.

i know thats what dj ravine on youtube uses. i think i remember him saying it was discontinued though

ill double check

EDIT: go to 2:30 he even mentions the ‘vocoder’
