play multiple loops together not pre produced mixed, on one track.

I tried doing this in an Ableton Live 9 drum rack, and couldnt get a loop to play fully without letting go of the pad on my novation launchpad.

or is there any other way to do this?

I am after setting drum loops that can be layered when playing live, by triggering them, not pre recording them to be layered, as there would be too many combinations required, and make it too complex to use playing live.

Im using ableton live 9

Using a seperate track for each loop would be wasteful in this instance, as all the other types of lines basses, pads, melody, plucky arpeggios, fx lines etc are using the other tracks in ableton.

I have tried a free software sampler plugin www.tx16wx.com

loading and using samples is easy.
this has the correct trigger, that ableton live 9 drum racks dont have, as it will play the loop entirely through from one tap of the pad of keyboard note (ableton stops on the note off message)

Is there a way of getting a loop to auto repeat, until the note data is sent again to stop, but being able to play several samples to layer them, without ending up with an insane ammout of tracks that are not manageable in a live stuation?

Do mean like what happens if you drop the sample into impluse and then increase the decay?

It won’t repeat but it will play the whole sample. the decay envelopes will do this in sampler and simpler also but I typically use impulse for this stuff myself.

Add an arpeggiator to the drum rack slot. Set the length to the speed you want it to loop. Map the launchpad pad for that slot to the Arp’s hold.

nice idea for the use of the arpeggio…

however, it does and doesnt work…

if you map any of the launchpad buttons to anything, then that overrides the default built in function (stops it triggering the sample in this case, if mapping it to the hold on the arpeggio)

ignoring the launchpad remapping… and using the mouse to set the hold works… however, the arpeggio will only do 1 bar maximum length, and my samples are longer than that.

There is a way to do this, using Simpler & Impulse (Simpulse?) combined in a Rack.

Sorry I can’t be more help - it’s something that I did about 5 years ago (part of my UC-33e DJ Template), and I can’t remember how I did it… :open_mouth:

These posts over at Ableton.com might help, though:

Just do it in separate tracks and then group them so you can expand/collapse the rows to save space.
