Playing in same key
How many tracks do you sometimes play that are in the same key in a row?
As many as I feel like at a given moment. What kind of question is that?
it was mainly because I find some awesome tracks that can go together but sometimes like I can find a string of like 6 songs all in the same key
Its nice to play songs in the same key, but one of the fundamental points in the camelot system is that its easy to progress through keys. There are lots of little querks to the system, such as jumping by 2 keys e.g. 2A to 4A, or jumping 7 keys; 1A to 8A.
Why not try them out, you’ll never run out of songs in the same key, becuase youre always changing key!
Otherwise just scour beatport for songs by specific key to pad out your collection.
I have alot of songs, it wasnt the problem really.
After playing a few in the same key, the “lift” you get from going up a fifth musically (one step on the Camelot system) will be stronger or felt more. So I can see using that as a technique for your mixes.
I normally don’t play the exact same key unless I am layering two songs over eachother for an extended period of time…but I also do this with perfect fifths, thirds, ect…
I do mix harmonically almost all the time however.
you play whatever tracks will help the flow of your set. using keys is simply a tool to help facilitate this at times. don’t look at this too strictly.
