I really need a/some new plug-ins, I don’t know wether its just I haven’t played around with the logic ones or not, but I need a better reverb, for my claps/hats and overall techno sound. Ive ben using the space designer and it just sounds to crackly, for ome reason i just cant a nice sounding reverb, also delays echo’s etc.
Can anyone recommend/link me to some good plug-ins to use in logic, preferably free ones, cant afford any new stuff atm
Or recommend a good setting for any of the built in reverb plug-ins in logic..
I think there is a freebie called Ambience or somehow similar.
It is quite good but I doubt it will let you achieve better results than with Logic’s space designer. This one is already quite good. If you’re looking for something better you will want to hve a closer look at Lexicon’s plugin bundles. The best one is the pcm native bundle but this is quite unaffordable though…

@ksandvik & @Mave - I am kinda new to Logic and producing so Maybe I just havent got the best use out of logics built in plug-ins, it just seems asif every single setting on the space designer i use, theres always a nasty crackling kinda of reverb noise, after the initial sample/reverb plays, i cant get a nice smooth reverb…
Some people might disagree with that but I suggest you to get deep with Logic, Logic’ own stuff is simply enough to make a professional track. Don’t waste your money right now for stuff that you don’t understand if you are starting to produce.
Also, the crackling sound, can you record it and put a sample of it? Crackling noise most of the time happens because of the audio underruns, are you using an external audio interface?
That’s weird. Suspect buffer issues, Space Designer takes a lot of CPU cycles, increase buffer size to see if this is the case.
Here:'s another hint to Space Designer users. The first thing I do when I select a preset is to always eq anything below 120Hz as it’s just rumble and distracts the mix. The reverb sound this way sounds more hifi and clean. I.e. in the Space Designer UI, hit the eq button to get the eq view. This is true of any reverb use in general concerning plug-ins.
Something like the Softube TSAR-1 might be a good choice as well as it has only 6 parameters if I remember it correctly so it would there might be much less confusion for a beginner like you. It’s said to sound quite professional, I never had the chance to test personally though.
But probably the problem is not Logic’s Space Designer, the problem is more likely the situation you’re in as everything seems to be still very new to you. As being said, the crackles probably occur because of buffer issues. Adjust the latency settings and they should be gone. Cut some low-end (like ksandvik suggested everything below 120Hz) with an eq and sound should be much better then.
Learning the tools you use will probably save you a lot of money! You definitely got basically everything you need!
Good point, i need to master the tools I already have before plunge’ing into otherstuff, I just cant seem to get the right sound.
Hm, how can I record it? Sorry if i sound silly… I can say, make a quick 4 bar beat with a clap, and apply the reverb to it, and somehow send you the project file? Nope Im using logics/my mac G5’s built in soundcard, i recently posted a thread on here about using my Native Instruments Audio 10 as a soundcard, but didn’t get much feedback.
YES! The space Designer absoloutely eats my CPU… every since I applied to a track, my CPU has been half full and hits red full within a minuet of my track being played, i NEED to upgrade to Logic Pro 9 on my MBP, im currently using logic pro 8 on my old G5 power mac…
Well i try rolling off the below 120Hz’, but to be honest, I think think this is actually the reverb itself, its like a reverb’y kinda crackle noise, its like the reverb effect rolling back, after the say, clap, (with a reverb on it) hits, you hear the Reverb, u hear the normal ‘shhhhhhhh’ kinda sound, but then it becomes a bit ‘crunchy’ this could be my lack of producing/logic knowledge leading me to believe that its actually meant to sound liek that and its just me not getting the right sound, or it could generally be latency/sound card issues.
This is where all the digital nitty bitty parts of music makes me sad, but only while im starting out… it’ll all be fine soon… lol
G5 is the culprit. Get any modern Intel CPU with at least four physical cores and you will be very, very happy. Eight cores or more and you could have tens of Space Designer instances running with no hiccups.
