Popular Latin?

Popular Latin?

hey guys, i’m calling all the people that are into latin music (reggaeton, bachata, cumbia, pop music in general). i have a gig next week for a halloween party, and along with hip hop there is a large latin crowd that will be in attendance. i’ve tried to immerse myself in it quickly, but like with anything it can only come over time (that i don’t have). i used to be up on my reggaeton, but the most i know now is that aventura has a new album o_0. so if anyone could give me a list of new/classics that would be well received at a party, it would be immensely appreciated. no list is too long! :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Popular Latin?

Pop/classics:
Belanova - bailia mi corazon
Magneto - vuela vuela
Regheria - Vamos a la playa

Celso Pina - cumbia sobre el rio
Celia Cruz - la vida es un Carnaval
Acento Molina - cumbia sampuesana

Los hermanos Rosario - moviendo la cadera or duena del swing
Oro solido - la morena, la de la tanguita roja, el baile del beeper

Latin house:

CZR - banda musik
El general - ya tu sabes
El presidente - café con leche
Saint john - agua

Reggeton:

Hope this helps out.

I’ve been on the look out for more cumbias colombianas, let me know if you have any. This was a pain to do from my iPhone! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

dude used to date a colombian that had me on those cumbias all the time  couldn’t tell you any though, it’s been a while. but thanks a lot for the help, i was hoping you would see this :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Popular Latin?

Yeah no problem, I’m stuck in bed for the next couple of days. So I’ll be on djtt 24/7. I have a dark cumbias mix on imeem.com/djjesc

Re: Popular Latin?

dude you have my condolences for whatever is keeping you in bed. I’m very interested as to what dark cumbias are :stuck_out_tongue: and want to see an example of mixing cumbias, so thanks for the link brother

well here in l.a., in the 80’s new wave or goth/industrial scene. They play cumbias, and call it Dark cumbias (cumbias colombianas) to make it seem like there not playing paisa (ghetto mexican) music. Blah!

Two more songs that I forgot to add

Caifanes - Negra Tomas
Los Fabulosos Cadilacs - El Matador

man i’m totally stressin this now because i feel like they’re going to be able to tell i don’t know what the hell i’m playing, what’s good and what’s cheese, you know? it’s not mainly a latin music event, so i don’t need a hell of a lot, but at the same time i don’t want to just play the overplayed stuff. i’m grabbing your suggestions though to avoid this, i just wish i had paid more attention to the scene now :stuck_out_tongue:

IN this for the win.. no wait… Just in for the info.

Hehe @Tekki, @DJHip…you should be fine, and dont forget to play some shakira shewolf, these hips dont lie…and so on. Oh yeah dont forget to pick up alot of Pitbull, latin people get off on it all the time. Fly im out to your gig and Ill give you a hand…hehehe

LoLz, come over to Europe and we’ll gig @Panda’s

yeah no doubt, i’ve noticed you can’t really go wrong with pitbull for some reason.

i’d totally fly you out..except I’M not even getting paid..so that’s partly the reason i’m not stressing too hard :stuck_out_tongue:

I would also suggest searching for latin/salsa/merengue/bachata remixes of rock songs. They are TERRIBLE but I have heard, for example, a salsa remix of “Clocks” by Coldplay and seen the club go nuts. You will have to swallow your pride a bit, which if you are not getting paid, is hard. Good luck!

{EDIT} One combo that I go to for the Latin crowd is this (including some Pitbull of course):
Shewolf - Shakira
Call on Me - Eric Prydz
Calabria 2008 - Enur
Hotel Room Service/any Pitbull song

after this you could play most any house that mixes harmonically…at least your BPMs are up from the terrible top40 BPMs in the 70s and 80s…

latin fever by wolfgang gartner is a great house track

most definitely! found that the other day. very groovy

I am all over this tune at the moment. absolute club banger!!!

Something like this? Hehe!

dude please tell me where i can get a copy of this! i heard it in the other forum when you posted it and forgot to ask you about it until now.

ha exactly, i actually played that remix tonight. I think i found it on whitefolksgetcrunk.com. Try that… I did also play latin fever by wolfgang gartner. that song is awesome and underrated.

PM ur email and Ill get this sent out.

I may be late to the post but may help any other looking for this info as well…

Beign from Puerto Rico all it takes is to turn the tv or radio on to hear whats hot right now in reggaeton and bachata. Aventura is one on the most popular bachata artists right now. Here in PR they sold out the national coliseum… 5 times… 5 consecutive days… For the reggaeton try Daddy Yankee, Don omar, Wisin y Yandel, Angel y Khriz, Tego Calderon, Miguelito, John Eric, ñejo, dalmata… Pretty much artists signed to Machete Music. Also there’s the Reggaeton and Bachata mashup know as ‘Bachaton’. Hector ‘The Father’ has one of the most popular songs in that new genre.
