Today I went to B&H Photo and picked up a pair of these puppies. They sound real nice and dont take up much space either. These are true bookshelf speakers and I paid a wopping $100 for the pair. At 15 watts a pair I have to keep the volume on the speakers down and raise the gain thats how loud they are.
I don’t think it really makes a difference if you are djing on flat or colored speakers to be quite honest, we are not producing here. All you’re doing is hitting play , phrasing and maybe some scratching & djing on “studio monitors” won’t make or break a dj in any shape or form.
Although I generally use my studio monitors because thats what I have in the studio, sometimes I like to set my P.A up and play with that or patch into my stereo for my television(b&w bookshelf speaks w/ higher end amp)it doesn’t make any difference… at all.
Why do you need completely flat monitors for DJing? Dependant on the equipment you use the sounds already going to be coloured before it reaches the monitors, from a Cartridge on a turntable, pre amp in the mixer etc
The old Bozaks and Urei’s etc used to really colour the sound, they gave the music warmth, and it has never been seen as a bad thing.
My attitude is just dandy towards the subject, simply stating that the speakers don’t make or break the dj.
Take it how ever you want though, I produce & I dj , through my experience I don’t think if I was to dj on a low end set of speakers, it would make me a worse or less of a dj.
Unless you think otherwise maybe you could enlighten us & not make a simple statement about my “attitude” when in reality “attitude” has nothing to do with it… if you actually think about it, my attitude towards it is positive because im reinforcing the fact that you don’t have to have amazing speakers to be a good dj…
not sure where or how you figured my attitude swayed in the wrong direction. A little self reflection might do you some justice my friend.
@botstein, I think the fact that you removed your comment speaks for itself… don’t know why you’re coming on a forum and judging peoples “attitudes” that to me seems like toxic intentions. My post was viable and respectful over all.
