Currently working on an essay for my music and technology module, having to find and analyze/connect 3 pieces of music.
Have to be Acoustic (Pre 1925), Analogue (Pre 1985) and then Digital.
Basically i did a pre-cursor paper for this final essay, and being the moron i am decided to choose synthesis in modern day music as my subject, which i got a very good mark for, but now i need to find a similarity between synthesis and pre-electronic recordings.
So i found my original piece;
Somehow i need some Pre-1985 electronica with a dance-focused element and some form of string synthesis, i just need a string sound in there and i can bullshit onward.
If nobody can help, i’ll just have to change the original track, which i am loathe to do since i have all the recording/mastering details for this track, plus information on the artist/s.
I cant think of a track off hand and Im at work right now so I cant check my “disco cd’s” but you should be looking at disco tracks. they used synth strings all the time.
i hope im understanding the question properly, if not im sorry.
You understand correctly, i basically want a distinct beat with some strings so i can claim a link between the two tracks and move to my modern day track - which will probably be some early Daft Punk.

I really wanna use Planet Rock…but i doubt i can pass that one off without solely going on about the string lead.
But will that really fulfill the requirement? If I was the instructor I might deduct points for using something that sampled something old and wasn’t original to the time period you’re specifically talking about. I think it would be best if you had something from the time period in question that was originally composed for the style of music you’re referring to. Maybe one of these?

ANOTHER EDIT: One of the comments in the Good Times list these as having sampled the song. Not sure if it’s all true.

i was going to suggest jean-michelle jarre. he basically was one of the pioneers of electronic music, started in the late 70’s early 80’s, one of the first musicians to use synthesizers. all his tracks are deeply riddled with analouge synths, he uses heaps of strings and pads on all his tracks. I did a very simmilar assignment for audio engineering comparing 3 tracks from 3 different eras. U wouldnt happen to be studying at SAE? lol. Anyway, i got a very high distinction for that assignment, id reccomend checking out jean michelle jarre for your assignment. it seems to fit what your writing about, and one of the comments i got on my assignment was that i obviously did a lot of research in music history, and the origins of electronic music… i didnt really, i just trawled through my parents record collection.
both those tracks still give me goosebumps when i hear them…

I actually looked at Jean Michelle Jarre, Vangelis, Tim Blake, Isao Tomita, Edgar Froese and many other 70s synth based composers - but unfortunately one of the main points i am using the first track to make is the link between era’s of dance, focusing on Tango and duple time in that piece aswell as the aspect of the strings to link in to synthesis.
So i need something with a beat and popular dance in mind.
Just put myself in a corner by making my first paper about synthesis even though i knew i’d have to use a pre-electronic era recording in the final essay, silly i know - but i had a load of research and books on synthesis anyway

I agree, i think i would be marked down, i will check through the videos you posted as disco is the direction i’m going to go in with the 2nd track as it serves for a nice progression into house for my digital-era recording.
I can’t be bothered to listen through the album at the moment, but you might wanna give Black Devil’s Disco Club a listen… I want to say it might have something like what you’re looking for. (But it’s been a while since I’ve listened to it so I could be wrong.)
