Pre party/ formal music??

Pre party/ formal music??

So I found out the other day that I have to DJ a Formal Party for my old frat. Everyone wears suits and girls wear dresses and stuff so its sorta classy i guess. However its an open bar, so about 2 hours in people get real sloppy and it turns in to the typical dance/ club/ houseparty/ shitshow thing.

The second half is easy because i can just play typical stuff like top 40, house, remixes and stuff like that but i was wondering what i should have playing for the beginning and when dinner is going on?

I would most likely just be playing the opener stuff through Itunes so that i can eat, drink and talk to people.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Gabba Techno, Jungle, and Brostep

Classic soul & R&B? I mean from when R&B actually meant rhythm and blues?

For classy cocktail parties I spin a lot of funky jazz like this:

Monseiur Leroc, Haggis Horns, Greyboy Allstars, Galactic.

Works every time!

old frat means they wanna hear stuff they can get shitty to. like pour some sugar on me, sunglasses at night, throwbacks like that. Maybe talk to the person in charge of what direction they want. maybe lounge relaxing cocktail party music then the throwbacks. I’m only going by the limited info you gave me

The funky jazz sounds like it might be perfect and i guess if i threw in some normal jazz that would work well, thanks for the suggestions!

Honestly, deep house and jazz.
