punters

punters

ok so i had my first club gig on friday nite, it was awesome apart from the amount of obnoxious punters asking for pendulum. in these situations i am torn between being polite so as not to be a buzzkill, and telling them to fuck off and die. anyone got any advice about how to politely suggest that said punters go eat a bag of dicks? all ive come up with so far is a stickers for my laptop that says “pendulum is shit”

Look real grumpy and wear the cheesy t-shirt:

“F#@k off, I’m mixing”

yeah like in schoolbusses…the signs in the front saying “do not talk to the driver” u could make a sticker for your laptop saying “do not talk to the dj” something like that.

Big Sign: No Requests!

I say next time we just pretend we are foreign

nice to know we’re on the same wavelength

It’s give and take.

Tell them you already played it and they should get there earlier. Tell them you’ll try to get to it. Tell them you’re not taking requests right now but to check back later.

Put your headphones on and pretend you’re trying

good advice, but only gets rid of them one at a time. this was my approach on friday, but it wasnt enough to keep the horde at bay. i guess wat i really should be doing is playing my music to people who want to hear it, not boozed up morons

I would tell them I would see if I can get it in by the end of my set, if they come back, I would tell them that it really doesn’t go with what I’m mixing, if they come back a 3rd time I would tell them to go “F@#K OFF” in a nice way

This one sums it up for me:

Put biohazard tape around the booth so no one can get close enough to make a request lol

Sometimes I will play whatever is requested if it’s…reasonable and if I can mix out of it.

What I used to do, when one of my friends was spinning, is take the requests instead of him .

I would either tell them, yes or no, depending if I liked the tune or not. Just so that the DJ could keep on spinning.

After the guy or girl passed his request to me, I would either go to my friend to laugh or really ask for the tune. But only when he was not beatmatching or handling a transition.

Well, you gotta spin to the boozed up morons in a club, cause, well, they drink and then you get paid.

Another idea is the request list. I love this little tool. When I don’t want to be bothered I just tell them to write it down and I’ll look at it. Make a point to look at it, especially if you aren’t going to play anything off of it.

Also, having someone there to take requests is a good idea, as Tekki recommended.

Thats a pretty good idea actually thumbs up

HAHAHAAHA, every dj should just play this at the very beginning of every set so all the punters know the rules :stuck_out_tongue:

Might be sampling that 10 things for using in my sets…

As soon as one comes with a request… ~BOOM~

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I could just picture that in a comedy skit or something, everytime that one guy that comes to ask for a request, as he’s walking towards the booth, you have that song cued up, look him straight dead in the eye and press play…then he walks away. LOL

You know… I am really gonna give it a go.

Maybe I will start a “Requests get you banned” regular in a club.

Where DJ requests will get you banned from the club forever.

lol, if you do, you need to get that on video and youtube it.
