Question about DJM 900 headphone volume

Question about DJM 900 headphone volume

I’ve noticed that while mixing with the DJM 900 with headphones on, the master channel always sound significantly louder than the channel I’m attempting to mix in despite adjusting the headphone volume. Actually noticed it on all the 900s I’ve mixed on. Is there a setting I’m missing or is this something I need to get used to?

master volume is probably turned up.

use master/cue knob, that should solve your problem

Thanks johney. I’ll give it a go when I get home.

Make sure your Master Output and Channel VU meters are level. Otherwise they won’t sound balanced.

pretty much what they said above…

After messing with the headphone volume last night, it seemed like I had everything set properly and both channels were equal in volume. But one thing I wasn’t able to do was lower the master channel in the headphones so that I could hear the channel being cued well enough to beatmatch. Coming from a DJM 350, I was able to adjust the master channel in the headphones without altering the gain/highs/mids/lows.

you can do that by using the cue/master knob, that sets the ratio at which the cued channels and master cue are mixed in the headphones

it’s right above the volume knob

Tried that, but didn’t hear any difference which way I turned it.

There should be an obvious change in Cue/Master mix when you turn the dial. Make sure you only have one channel’s Cue activated, as well as the Master Cue.

I know it’s obvs… But do you have only the buttons pressed for the master and the deck you want to cue ? You dont have both tracks and the master cued?

Mixing two channels. I have both “cue” buttons pressed for each channel. I’m probably being really stupid about this. :expressionless:

That’s why it sounds louder on the “Master” since you’re listening to the same track twice.

yeah you want just master and only the channel you are cuing… otherwise your just listening to both cued channels at their full volume and the cue / master knob wont make a difference

That’ll be your problem for sure.

I’m not listening to the same track twice. One track in one cue button, the other track in the other cue button. Am I making sense?

you should have cue on for

-master
-track you’re mixing in

to make the knob work.

I do. Always had it that way.

Turn on Cue for one channel, and the Master.

You only cue one track against the master

Like this (notice only track 1 and the master’s cue buttons are lit up):

Wow, that was stupid of me. Thanks guys. :open_mouth:

Its also worth checking the Mono Split/Stereo button
