Question About My Technics SL-1200

I just baught a Technics SL-1200 @ the flea market without a needle and I noticed that the tone arm tilts (weighs) down towards the back. Is this because it’s missing the needle and is it normal? I’d like to know before I purchase a one.

I know It’s a rather easy questions but I’d appreciate an answer.

If you do not have a needle on the tone arm it will tilt towards the rear of the table. It is caused by not having the weight of the needled on it.

Did it come with a head shell by chance? If so all you need is just the needle.
