Question about NI’s S4 flightcase
I’ve been thinking about purchasing the flight case but I was wondering how sturdy the built in stand was. I’m aware that it’ll slide completely off the rails if your not careful but, will it be a good platform for my 15" MacBook and Maschine together?
I don’t do any crazy pad mashing but still I want a surface that’s gonna be relatively sturdy. Does anyone on here have any first hand experience with it and Mashine?
i’ve it and i use it with lapton+external hard disk on top panel and S4 in under panel…i can’t figure how can you put a maschine on it…
Dammit. Yeah, I didn’t even check to see if the platform’s size would even accommodate both my laptop and Maschine.
Well if it doesn’t, I’ll probably put my laptop to the side anyways. I’m not too crazy about having the laptop right up front anyways.
Ok dude ive got the flight case, and other than raising the s4 to a good hight on tables a bit too low I hate it.
Yes it keeps it safe, thats a given
Its super heavy, seriously man it weighs a ton

The flight case is extremely HEAVY… Other than that I have no beef With it…I’m getting the shoulder bag in a week or so just to try it out…
Padded Bag v Flight Case
I would suggest a padded bag. I got one made in the UK many years ago which not only had foam between the inner and outer canvas layers but an additional light weight board top and bottom of the bag to stop any pointed items attacking it. Worked great. I got mine in from 3D Flight Cases but there must be someone in your area that does the same sort of thing. Try Google with [ame=“Google Search”]Custom Soft Padded Bag[/ame].
the only thing with padded bags is that i always worry the faders will get knocked out during transport - anything like that happened to anyone yet? or am i just being paranoid?
oh come on…it’s 10kg weight case+s4 is not so much…altought is a good exercise for you arms (girls’ll love it xD )
Thanks for the input so far guys. I have read that the case can get kinda heavy but that’s not really a deal breaker for me. I’m planning on putting the case on a keyboard stand when I play out. My main question was conserning the built in laptop stand and whether or not it would be suitable to place my Maschine on it. I don’t want it sliding around on the rails when I’m trying to hit the pads.
I use the S4 Flightcase. It is a bit heavy if you’re not DJing locally (i.e. touring the world), but it’s not so bad.
As for the stand, I put my 17" Macbook Pro on it with no problem and no fear. Some people say that if you push too hard it’ll fly out and your laptop will fall off. Not really, the weight of your laptop will sort of push the stand down on the rails and add extra support.
Then again, I don’t let chodes in the booth when I play so I don’t have to worry about people pushing shit over or knocking drinks on my gear.
As far as I’m concerned, it was a good purchase. I feel way better about gigging my S4 now than just carrying it around in a bag.
they have been slightly modified now, there’s a small black metal plate added to one of the rail ends, this stops the top from flying off.
As for weight, it’s nothing really, less than a single cased turntable, less than many cased mixers. The people complaining are either weaklings or have never been “on the road” DJ’s. The weight is only when you are setting up, the rest of the time it’s in the back of the car, aircraft hold, taxi, your groupie mates hands.
The padded bag option is lighter but you still need to take something to stand your laptop on.
remember that heavier cases are harder to steal…

I recommend the Odyssey Flight Case (FZGSTKS4 or FZGSTKS4BL) over the Official Traktor one… (I’ve used both.)
The case has no branding on it. (I wasn’t a big fan of TRAKTOR being pasted on the side of the NI case.)
The front panel has more space for the volume knobs (Headphone, Cue, Mic) than the NI case… (I’ve had a few instances when the volume knobs would actually press against the case when in storage if they were not pressed in all the way. This could damage the knobs.) The Odyssey case doesn’t have this problem.
There is more space underneath the S4. (Almost enough for a wireless mic receiver, defintiely enough for a harddrive, cables etc with no heating issues.)
These maybe minor issues… but I got mine at Guitar Center for the same price as the NI one…

…If I was touring or going on vacation I’d go with the UDG trolley…
