RAIN laptops

RAIN laptops

anyone own or have any experience with RAIN laptops???.. i’m looking into getting another laptop soon… just curious to see how these work in comparison to the macs for DJin only b/c the specs kill the macbooks

RAIN makes laptops?

edit nvm I’m thinking of RANE..

I’ve never even heard of RAIN

I have heard these guys do some serious kit: http://pcaudiolabs.com/

They do look pretty serious…so does the price tags wow

I think if you compare them to a Panasonic Toughbook they are somewhat reasonable.

the HD could be bigger, and i dont see anything about ram, but this isnt that bad compared to a mac

The pc audio looked pretty serious…had quad core option for laptop…traktor would run great on that…I just don’t want to have to upgrade for atleast 5 years so ima save and get a good laptop…I’ve looked into lenovo too they seem pretty stable but I need a laptop that can handle the abuse of a dj and sound vibrations

just buy a decent laptop for like $500 and then buy a SSD for traktor stability and withstanding vibrations

AFAIK Traktor only uses a single core.

That is true. I believe the only multi-core benefit for most users here are those who run multiple sound processing apps while DJ’ing or writing music. Otherwise pretty much a waste.

I use Apple. I have never owned a Rain computer. But nem0nic, who’s just about the only guy I’ve ever had a peaceful resolution of a Mac/PC flame war with, recommends and uses Rain computers, and if you’re set on using Windows…I’d trust his advice.

I mean…uhh…get a mac…'cuz I totally drank the kool aid…and 'cuz they look better when you’re typing on your music blog at the coffee shop with your Chrome bag sitting against the leg of your APCs and your custom fit track bike locked securely to a trash can outside…and…uhh…I STILL LOVE YOU, STEVE!!!<3!!!11!

The weird thing is that I own a Chrome bag and am currently wearing APCs. And I did drink the kool aid…I really do think that Macs are just better in every possible way. But not everyone needs to use software that just doesn’t exist for Windows and I think that riding a track bike in a city means that you deserve to lock up your rear wheel in the rain and get hit by a car.

To me most all cpus are the same…the only difference are the specs and who put it together…parts are all from same companies (I.e…amd, intel, etc)… and only other difference is op system…but mac’s are def sexy

Yeah, I know I have a single core turion 2.0 and it doesn’t run that great…TSP1 works fine but TSP2 won’t even run…and my laptop is maxed out of ram

Looks like a flippin’ BEAST of a PC. Go for it if you gots tha cheddar.

Turion? AMD is still in business?

Also, the Turion might be below the minimum spec for Traktor Pro, I think. The Athlon64 is the minimum listed. But I could be wrong…IHNFC what their model lineup looks like.

Yeah my turion is bare minimum to run traktor scratch pro 2… as far as a pc beast… eh…I’m torn…next laptop I get won’t be on internet at all… I may use my dell mini in meantime bc it atleast has a dual intel atom processor

I have a rain i5 livebook, just got it a few months ago. The cooling on it is really silent and effective, and it has been running serato itch, maschine, and ableton event free. The only complaint I have is they decorated it really cheaply. They have their logo on the lid with this really cheap ugly adhesive foil, I just peeled it right off and it looks great. I heard somewhere that their laptop line is made by lenovo

NI really need to push harder to sort their software out. No multithreading and no 64 bit!

water resistant laptops? :stuck_out_tongue:

Think the nicest laptop I seen in a good while was these sony vaio’s, one was illuminous orange and the other was illuminous green, they come with i5 processors, 4 gb of ram, hd display with a glossy finish and backlit keys which are the same colours as the laptops. was thinking one of these would look really nice on a laptop stand, since a mac looks kind of nice I got the two side by side and honestly without it turning into a mac v pc argument, thought the sony looked a lot nicer, the green one looked very rich and professional and the screen looked really nice, super bright…
