Random Q - anyone got a tsi for a xone db4?

Mates popped over with one to review/play with, so this needs to be quick.

Have fun!

Lucky you, so jealous!

+1

OK go the output routing, but can I get the tsi to make the buttons map, can I fuck …

wat

Has the db4 been updated with the latest firmware (2.0)
that could be the problem

Fixed it - midi port thing … damn that was fun. Bit shit for hiphop and old funk, but like a VCI on steroids for EDM type stuff.

lol yeah…

Photo of my mate Moneyshot being baffled by the Xone db4 …

Out of interest, has anyone else played with one of these?

What did you think to it?

No I’ve not had the pleasure of playing with DB4 but I do want one,
I’m waiting for the price to drop again.

I’ve heard about a few problems about the DB4 these are

Volume caps on faders are too close to the face plate sometimes too close that it’s scuffing face plate, which isn’t too bad a problem that can be easily fixed

Low volume level when using turntables playing standard vinyl,
this will be fixed in future updates

So since you’ve had a shot, was there any problems or gripes with the DB4?

Insanely powerful routing and sampling/effects section, massively customisable to the point you can get lost in it - there are about 3-4 ways of applying a filter to a track.

Managed to get the tsi working in the end, but got a bit lost int he 3 layers of MIDI messages being sent. I wouldn’t like to cue point juggle on it either, buttons were ‘clickier’ than my VCI

Space around the crossfader too cluttered for my liking, I’d be worries about knocking the fx button as it’s so close. The fader cap kept falling off the crossfader as well.

It nice, but it totally OTT for what I play …

So using it via midi with TSP2 is ok for using basic functions not beat juggling
so the use of a controller is still needed

Yeah going through 3 pages could become very confusing

The best thing about the DB4 is the effects and the looper then

Thanks for the info Ohms

Love mine, favorite mixer I’ve ever used (never used a 68 or DJM2000 for comparison, but on paper there’s not much terribly appealing to me about those). Not much sense going on about every little thing as everyone already knows the basic, but my favorite trick at the moment is playing around with noise - basically using the bit bash effect on an analog input and using the looper, filters, and effects parameters (the timing parameter on the visual display for bit bash different than any of the other effects and is modifiable basically as quantized beat sections - very easy to get creative). I guess the thing I like the most is that I’ve had it for 2 months now and I’m still finding new ways to use it every day.

Will definitely agree that the buttons are certainly not cut out for any midi-fighter style smashing, but then again they were never meant to be.

Arcade mod!

No no no no no… Ive had my DB4 for 4 months know, best mixer ive played, it gives my tracks such an organic awsome sound.

Dont really see the point in using it as a a complete midi controller, i ttied mix arcs tsi, didnt like it. U have a x1 and a midifighter, i found the x1 complements it perfectly. I usually mix with cdj"s but when i make a mix im using tpro. My favorite thing is having a track play on 2 channels, one utalizing eq filter mode with effects washed over it. I also have take the output from booth or record an backfeed it into an anolouge channel. This gives you a contrlable feedback effect, whenyou want your 4th channel back for traktor, just switch from analouge to digital…

I think that you will be hearing some amazing things soon from guys spendinh a lot of time on this mixer, its a unique sound. Heres a mix i did recently using tpro, i only use the db4’s fx. The last 5 minutes i had the track on all 4 channels with different eq modes and effects on each, bringing them back and forth is fun.
