Hey guys. My uncle wants me to dj at his wedding. Luckily he’s a cool dude so no chicken dance. My usual dubstep/electro house may not go over as well. So, he said he wants a sort of illbient sound like dj spooky. However I think that might be hard to mix. So I’m looking for some house tracks with a funky/disco/breaks sound. Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.
Believe me, I would too. However, I think even that may be too synthesized. I’m looking for something s little more organic. More classic house style. Although I might throw something lie peep thong by his majesty Andre in there.
yo man, i dj a lot of weddings. usually there is RARELY any electro/house/dubstep/trance whatever. but then again if your uncle is requesting some unique cool shit, might as well drop some thin white duke shit (gotta love his mr. brightside remix). also yea, song selection is KEY. mixing flawlessly should come secondary but if you can roll with mixing your tracks THAN HELL YES MAN.
go for an eclectic mix of electronic dance music, classic rock/pop/r&b and remixes of recognizable songs. I’m sure most the guests would get tired of warbly electro-fart music and syncopated beats after the first hour or so unless it’s a raver kinda crowd.
For a bit of inspiration i suggest checking out this wedding mix by a couple of my favourite local djs, Wood ‘n’ Soo!
after hearing this you’ll wanna get married just to hire these cats! lol
Unless the bride and groom met in a rave with all of the guests including the family also in attendance, most of the people will want to hear something they recognise most of the time. Doesn’t mean you can’t get freaky with the remixes, particularly with house and breaks. De’ekline and Ed Solo have some pretty funky mashups of well known tunes for example.
louis armstrong - what a wonderfull world
barry white - can´t get enough of your love baby
frank sinatra - fly me to the moon
jamiroquai - cosmic girl
cake - short skirt long jacket
nerd - hey mister! (but maybe later that evening)
elvis presley - love me tender
ray charles - i got a woman
…
Try putting a new twist on the wedding classics by layering with breakbeats or getting some mashup versions. It’ll keep the crowd happy and stay musically interesting.
Dee Lite - Groove is in the Heart (hey, you could pull out the Trocadisco remix)
B52’s - Love Shack
Earth Wind & Fire - September
ABBA - Dancing Queen (watch the tempo, that shit is 104 BPM).
