Recommendations on turntables

I dont think you can… at least, not legally. :disappointed:

seems like its doable

Not anymore.

What armyofme4340 is doing in that video was only possible in earlier versions of Traktor Scratch Pro because of a loophole in the software.

That loophole has now been patched out because (despite having ‘some’ legit uses) it encouraged people to download cracked versions of Traktor Scratch Pro and use non-certified soundcards.

The loophole was tested by NI and shown to be very unstable.
Obviously it isnt in NIs interest to have people using unstable versions of Traktor.

Just bought a pair of 1210s on a complete whim - browsing ebay this lunchtime and spotted a pair with a crappy mixer for £200 - they look to be in good nick from the photos as well. Now to spend the next 10 years learning how to scratch properly …

Damn, well that rains on my parade, thanks for informing me before I went out and bought turntables haha.
So, let me get this straight. To run timecoded vinyl my options would be:

  1. Upgrade to one of the NI certified controllers from their website
    or
  2. Buy the audio 8 sound card?

Just out of curiosity, why do NI not want people to simply be able to hook up some turntables running timecoded vinyl into their own sound card and route that into traktor. I feel like it would do just as good a job or am I wrong? I just don’t see any disadvantages except a from a monetary standpoint for NI

Audio 4 works just as well. but only 2 decks.

Interesting, could I buy audio 4, have timecoded vinyl to control decks A&B and still use C&D just without the vinyl control?

I dont own it, so I cant really say. I would assume, you could run your cdjs into an external mixer, and then run your traktor signal to the same mixer. It would be difficult without a 4 channel mixer.

Right now I use 4 decks on traktor using my RMX with a modifier to switch between A&B to C&D. So I guess what I’m asking is could I hook up turntables to the Audio 4, use those only on A&B and have jogwheel control on C&D?

Oh, my b, I thought you said cdj. Yeah, you could totally do what you want.

And traktor + audio 4 would let me do that?!

prettty sure man. Someone else want to back me up?

Traktor Scratch Pro, not just traktor pro… If you have that then yes.

pretty sure i’ve seen Ean post that you can’t do that, you have to pick midi or timecode control of decks, not both.. i could be wrong, im more of a serato guy when it comes to TC and I don’t have the proper hardware for traktor scratch

basically because traktor certified soundcards and mixers have been tried and tested by NI.

to pass ‘certification’ they have to be rocksolid with everything the software throws at it, have minimal latency etc..

you do want your gig to be faultless and your system stable dont you? well thats what NI want for you too…!

the last thing NI want is for your system to crash resulting from an ‘uncertified’ sound device. if you tell people you were using traktor and your system crashed its going to give their brand and reputation a negative view in the eyes of the punter.

serato do the same with their system too for the exact same reasons.

if you plan on playing out and or making money from dj’ing, spend the cash on certified gear.

I see, that makes sense Josh.
So last thing. With the Audio 4, I could only run two decks, regardless of whether or not I map my controller to decks C&D?

indeed, as long as you mixing internally.

Mixing externally with the Audio 4 will only allow you 2 channels.

mmmmm

If you mixing internally, use an Audio 4 DJ and have TSP…you can totally use the Timecodes for A&B…then a midi controller for C&D.

Think about it.

If you use the VCI-100 as your midi mixer…and turn it to 4 deck mode…you can set A &B and Timecode and C&D you can leave alone.

Then you got it going on!

I know you don;t have a VCI-100…but I am sure it will work.

Well…I fucking HOPE it works…or else my parade will be pissed on.

Nah dude. DJ Rafik rocks both. Mashine…X1…Timecodes.

:slight_smile::smiley:

Okay perfect so that’s what ill do then. I only really need the vinyl to be running for two decks. Thanks for all of you guys’ input!
