Registering a Maschine with Native Instruments?

Im trying to figure out if I have my facts straight or not based on a conversation I had with a NI rep. Say I bought an old mk1 Maschine that had not been registered. Is it true that you dont have to/did’nt have to register the hardware is it just the softwre that needed to be registered. On the software side if I had Machine 1.8 can I get an update for free or do I need ti purchase the update. Any help with these questions would be very helpful thanks.

Only the software is registered, at least that’s how it was done with the Mk1.

You can’t get Maschine 2.0 for free

You can register the hardware but it’s of no use and the register hardware page can be only found via google…
And yes you need to purchase the update to 2.0
