Registering names.

Registering names.

So, what I was hoping to read on the DJTT Blog article about copyright, was a little insight to registering names. Not just for production work, but for your own name (trademarking it?) or nights you might want to run, or like registering a production company name.

Does anyone have any insight into this process? I’ve thought about it, talked about it with a few people, and feel that it’s something that’s fairly important.

Have you registered your “DJing” name? Do you have a production company that’s registered or unregistered?

What do you think about this process?

I think a big key is to have your name out where it can be seen. Facebook, twitter, here etc. That way if anyone tries to argue that they used the name first, you have a trail showing you have used it for the last 4 years (for example). If you produce any tracks, I would get your name trademarked, if you are just spinning at clubs, Bassline Brine in timbucktoo isn’t going to be a threat. Unless he is touring all over the place.

If I was rich and making lots and lots of money and playing internationally yes.

Otherwise big waste of time. Your name is generally protected from someone just using it as long as you have proof it was yours first.

these days owning the .com seems to be a fairly decent idea for starters… also agree on the twitter thing etc

the lines get pretty blurrred with every producer’s name consisting of a lot of k’s, x’s, z’s and t’s..

I have a pro football player and a porn star that share my name.

That 's awesome dude.

Yeah, I understand the difference from networking and registering your name :stuck_out_tongue: It’s a game I’m actually pretty on the ball about, and taking things slowly.

But thinking not just for DJ names, but clubs nights or an event promotion crew. No one does this?
