Ron Paul vs. Obama

Ron Paul vs. Obama

So, Ron Paul nearly won the Ames straw poll. Seems like his libertarian views play very well with tea party members. If it wasn’t for his (dangerous) isolationist foreign policy, he’d probably be the front runner by a lot. He’s consistent, has a proven record, and can’t be bought out. Anyone think he has a chance? Maybe a VP spot? I honestly hope he at least gets to head up some federal agency, maybe secretary of state.

Yeah a lot of people seem to connect with him. In 2008 he was the only candidate who made any sense at all when talking about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. However when he opens his mouth about almost anything else – taxes, abortion, creationism, immigration – he’s as loony as Michele Bachmann.

i like Paul Ryan alot hes a congressman from Wisconsin

All I want is someone who can agree that a corporation is not a person and therefore strip them of this insanity we put ourselves in.

And I really think it’s Ron Paul Vs. Perry. Perry’s going to have a tough time overcoming that whole redneck cowboy image that gets him elected in Texas.

too many ifs…come correct…please…

The last straw poll Bachman beat him by a few hundred votes. However she bribed 4000 people with music concert tickets to get that support. And wow gotta love the unbiased reporting over there … They mention Bachman winning, fair enough, skipped 2nd place and mentioned third.

He is retiring post elections win lose or draw.

there is absolutely no basis historical basis to think that the ames straw poll has any influence whatsoever on the republican nomination. the winner of the ames straw poll has won the republican nomination…

wait for it…

once…

its a paid event. ron paul took second because he paid to lease the middle area. bachman won because she bought all her own tickets and gave them away to attendees.

even the ohio republican party, in their own documents admit the straw poll was nothing more than a fundraiser for the ohio republican party.

but to ground this discussion in reality. the winner of the ames poll has always, and continues to mean absolutely nothing to republicans and who will win the republican nomination.

thats a good start, but it wont mean anything unless we figure out a way to repeal citizen’s united.

Follow the logic here for a second. Corporations are people. If you tax a corporation, who actually pays that tax? It comes out of the company bank account, and the company has to either raise prices or cut dividends to investors to compensate. The price raise means that the corporate tax is actually a tax on consumers. (individual people) If increased taxes result in lower profits, individual investors receive a lower return on investment. There is no such thing as a tax on a corporation, at the end of the day, it’s a tax on individuals. Businesses are either a person, or group of people.

Your turn, explain how a corporation is not a person.

There are basically two types of taxes for corporations: C Corporations and S Corporations. C Corporations are taxed on income after taking into account business expenses. This is exactly what every “person” does. Then we have S Corporations which are treated like LLC’s where all income is passed through the corporation and reported on personal tax returns.

C Corporations should not exist it’s a tax loophole designed to circumvent tax codes. Ohh and a corporation is not a person, that too.

Just thought I’d throw this in here as well if you were still confused.

Ron Paul has one vary serious problem to overcome if he has any chance what so ever - the media absolutely hates him. This video is pretty hilarious:

As for the whole corporation as person debate. I don’t think the issue is with taxes as much as corporate liability. People are rightfully irked when a corporate entity can go largely unpunished for robbing them of a vast percentage of their personal wealth as in the mortgage meltdown. Corporations do not commit crimes - people do. But when those people can hide behind corporate liability to the point where they legally can’t even be tried, many see that as a problem.

The people who control the Republican Party will never let Ron Paul get anywhere near the White House. /thread, example watch Photojojo’s link. He’s just as nuts as Bauchman but at least he has a strong anti-war stance which is the only positive thing I could say about the man.

The media will barely acknowledge he exists never mind give him coverage. Look at all the media from the Straw Poll. Media on the right, left and center had more coverage of the the people not even in the race (yet).

Illegals busting in by the 1000’s and Alabama unemployment rates at an all time high. Make all those illegals legal and your Alabama unemployment rate would be at an all time low.

There’s five Mexican dudes that live in the two bedroom house next door to me. They all go to work when I’m waking up and are coming home when I’m finishing up my dinner. I guess I’m just making the assumption that they’re illegal, but I’m pretty sure that assumption is correct.

The hardest working people I know are the ones that everyone wants to get rid of.

Not everyone the corporations that employ them are perfectly happy to exploit them.

That’s the worst part give them some kind path to citizenship.

I don’t have the answers as to what that may be but we have so many policies and laws that have just been outdated and the ones that still work are dying faster than ever thanks to technological advances. We need to find a way to draft and enact laws and policies that can advance as fast as we are. There’s no one clear fix-it-all bur just ignoring it is even worse.
