S4 is coming but nervous about upgrade

My S4 is on its way but I have one concern. I am currently running Traktor Pro Duo 2 and I am nervous that when I install the Traktor Pro 2 that the S4 comes with that i may lose my playlists and sets. Should I be nervous? Should I install from the disk or enter the Serial number as an upgrade in the NI preferences?

No you’ll be asked if you want te keep your settings and other shizzle just click yes and everything wil be duplicated to TP 2.

This, in service center there’s an upgrade option. When you enter the new serial number it will then turn your Pro Duo 2 into full fledged Pro 2. If you ever get the scratch upgrade you can do the same thing.

Thanks guys. I will most likely do it through the service center upgrade option. I will let you know how it goes. Hopefully I don’t lose anything.

You could also, idk, back things up……

The native instruments folder in your documents folder is the important one.

Wow…I’ve turned into such an Apple user. I didn’t know that folder existed.

Also, wow…NI and Apple are good at backups, upgrades, and system migrations. I just realized I haven’t had to rebuild my home directory since I bought my first Mac.

And wow…Quicksilver is good…I haven’t actually looked at my home folder except to write dotfiles in years………

I used to run linux……when did this change happen? Next thing you know, I’ll be thinking that Launchpad isn’t that inconvenient………

eww.. i cant stand macs. I dunno ive been using PCs ever since they came out and i tried the macs, but it was never mean to be

I can’t use PCs. Kind of grew up on them…saw the light with Linux almost a decade ago and used it happily for years…finally decided to use my computer for music (was all vinyl before that) and had headache after headache switching back from what I wanted to what Bill Gates wanted…and saw the light again with OS X.

I still prefer linux in a vacuum. But Maschine, Traktor, Pro Tools, and Logic keep me on OS X. And, apparently I’ve developed some of the mindset of not worrying so much about files and folder structures.

If I ever don’t need to use a computer for music, I’ll switch to either Gentoo or ArchLinux in a heartbeat…until then, Quicksilver and Terminal are close enough.

Just as i expected, I lost my playlists. i guess its because i used the install cd. i tried to go back previous collections and was able to open but my playlists were gone. any idea where they could be saved. and no, like a dumbass i did not do a time machine back up. is there one automatically done??

There might be. Was your time machine drive plugged in?

Just try entering TM and seeing if your NI folder is in tact.

no. it wasnt set up. how about in any of the ni folders? i found all the previous dates and stuff.

i am relocating all my files now from my external drive music. I can’t open itunes though.

I did lose my playlist temporary. When I did an update, it must have pulled the last usage from my Pro Duo 2. Everything is there. Heartbreak over. Time to make things happen.
