Who here uses their strictly uses S4 or S2 for a professional paid gig? I know most professional would also have a backup device but i’m mainly interested to see how many DJs out there uses the S4/S2 primarily on their gigs no matter what genre of music they play.
I’m curious to know the quality and its durability on a working environment and expose to different kinds of elements.
S4 here, no major issues. Had a X1 next to it for additional control but sold it and waiting for a K2 now. Unless you are a primate with your gear you shouldn’t worry about quality, it does the job nicely.
been using the s4 for 13 months now and it gets banged around a lot during shows. holds up to my abuse. people aren’t spraying beer directly on it or blowing smoke into it. but its had its fair share of splashes and smoke exposure. i wipe it down after every gig and put it directly back into its bag when i’m done using it.
worst case, i use my guitar center replacement plan
S4 yes, totally, did 7 hours solid on a few occasions now. However I’m adding 1210’s and scratch upgrade just to make it more intresting for me and more theatre for anybody watching.
Thanks for all the response fellas keep em coming.
Aneater32 - I totally understand the showmanship of having turntables on your set. Having just a laptop and digital controller can sometime look cheesy depending on the crowds.
Been using my S4 at gigs for about 8 months now. My biggest issue so far has been finding room for it in the DJ booth. Typically I end up unplugging a CDJ or Turntable to make room. I also have a Midi Fighter Classic (for extra Cue Points) and Midi Fighter Pro Cue Master (for FX) alongside it.
I play everything from House, Electro, Breaks, Glitch and Dubstep.
I usually bring a backup (iPhone and NI Audio 2 DJ) just in case.
looking forward to using my s2 at gigs (only had it 2 weeks)
in a club i would have this plugged into mixer and use the clubs cdjs as backup.
i had to do this on several occasions when using my old american audio vms4!!! aside from occasional audio pop issues it would also randomly freeze up. i think it was sensitive to the mains voltage/current as it would also freeze up when i drew smoke from a smoke machine i used at a couple of parties.
from what you guys say though im not expecting any issues gigging with the s2
The only issue that I had was when I just got the S2 out of the box and went straight to the club, with little testing time (which is against my own rules)…so then I paid the price…I had latency issues all night…it was a user error not a hardware failure. Other than that, I keep rocking the club every weekend…I also add a BeatMasher Pro and an Akai MPKmini…but if I needed the S2 would do just fine on it’s own.
Had an S4 for the better part of the year, use it (along with a midi fighter classic) for 100% of my gigs since i got it (i hold three residencies a week-- one a lounge, one a bar, one a 450 capacity main room at a club). i bathed the crossfader in vodka, and understandably, it didn’t appreciate it (it jumps around randomly now). luckily that’s the one damn thing on the machine i never, ever use. i just turned the crossfader off in traktor and continued to live my life.
otherwise, no complaints at all. it’s stood up to a lot of abuse.
these results are pretty awesome and very motivating. Although, I only have an S2 for now, I only intend to use it for learning and maybe just house party with friends. But i’m very glad to know that it delivers.
I use the S4 in a rock climbing gym. It and my laptop gets pummeled with chalk dust during the bouldering competitions and they have still come thru. Of course, I try and clean them when I get home. but really solid setup.
