I have been dj’ing 1 year this February and up until 2 weeks ago, i was using Denon Dns 3500’s, and I’m very glad i first started out on CD players, i learned so much that i wouldn’t have otherwise earned had i went straight to midi.
Two weeks ago my S4 came, took a day or so to get my head round it, and i think now i can use it pretty effectively. I love it, what i love most of all is how easy loops can be manipulated and how unbelievable the effects are.!
But, I just dont think i get the ‘kick’, the satisfaction i got from mixing with CD’s. Don’t get me wrong, i adore the S4 but it feels almost as something is left out !
Does or has anyone else felt the same as me ?
Here’s the 1st mix I did on my S4, few F*** ups, but hey, i was blasted.
I’m glad other people feel the same ! My dream setup would be 2x Denon Dns 3700s, probably a dnx 1600 mixer, traktor and an x1 to control effects and loops ! That would be PERFECTO.
another factor/reason i also like cdj’s over s4 is the no laptop. so my dream setup would probably be cdj 2k’s or an s4 that has a screen and the ability to hook up an external hard drive along with an x1/midi-fighter of course :]
yeah man thats cool.. I’ve only started using the laptop from i got the s4, i kinda like it. well what i like about it is traktor and its fx.. oh well, we can all dream !
same here. I had an S4. I ended up switching to Serato and now i feel like I have the best of both worlds. A streamlined workflow, CD’s, Mixer, etc. but with the advantages that come with using software — loops, cue points, library. I agree — it’s just not the same using a controller.
Yeah man, i checked that out! Glad I’m not alone..! I’m only a young lad and here’s me going for the ‘ancient’ idea of just using CDJ’s as C.D.J.'s! haha
