Sampled house music
While browsing trough the musical part of the internet, I came across this interesting video. Older DJ’s might have noticed it allready, but youngsters like me won’t have a clue. Worlds most famous tunes, especially the ones labeled as “house”, are mostly sampled. Perhaps it’s not a suprise to some of you, but this video is quite a shock.

Yep for sure. Whats worse though is the blatant rip offs in hip hop. Basically all “big name” producers do is trawl through some old classical records and repeat the melodies, and because of the 50 year copyright laws they don’t have to pay royalties. Happens in all forms of music to some degree though. This is why the beatles have been campaigning to have these laws changed as their early tracks and also guys like elvis etc will lose their intellectual property right to their early tracks in about 5 years. So stand by for a mass amount of remakes.
Sampling or re-using existing material is no biggie imo, it serves its purpose.
As long as the artist acknowledges he’s used certain source material… Why not?

New twist on an old song? I really have no problem with it.
But yes, sampling is a bit rampant in house music. I was a bit upset when I learned daft punk’s robot rock was a looped sample with a couple other things thrown in.
I’m still amazed at the processing they must’ve done to these samples to get them sounding so good. You can’t just drop an old funk loop into live or logic and add a nice kick to make these gems sound good. I imagine they replayed some of the instruments on some tracks. After all Daft Punks discovery was pretty much a tribute to old styles (a discovery and reinvention of old tracks I believe) hence the name.
Pretty interesting video actualy, i didnt know a few of those tracks actually came from samples.
Well, I do respect the re-processing of the tracks (hell, must be pain!) but I disrespect the obvious rip-offs hehe.

Not a new video but maybe new to some ?
ya a lot of hiphop and electronic music is very sample reliant. it’s not a bad thing, i don’t think it’s cheating or ripping off another artist if your refashioning it into something new.
