I was particularly interested on how the early guys were using just the crappiest equipment possible and it was all about attitude, vision, hard work practising and being creative. Once the orthodox setup became standard (Two Technics and a Rane mixer) then commercialized and sold to Joe Average, it all turned into a bit of a dick-measuring contest.
I absolutely digg this flick, i got it back than when it was first released on dvd with dutch subtitles. Theres also a live-dvd, where MMMike and the X-men play a routine/set. Its still beeing played time to time, whenever i wanna get amazed.
Definitely one of my favorite films. I’ve had it on my DVR for the past few years, and the last time I tried watching it I literally had to stop just a little bit in to contain my nigh irresistible urge to spend the last of my money on decks and a mixer.
Great doco about the development of techno culture in germany in the late 80’s. most of it is subbed but the narration & this trailer isnt for some reason. Full version available on PB
I own a copy of Scratch, I love that flick. I think my favorite part is when DJ Shadow is talking about egos in the vinyl basement and says something about being humbled by all those who thought they were bad ass, but eventually end up in the basement.
