Scratching too much, like a tic.
When I started DJing, I wasn’t scratching, sometimes I tried, it sounded like crap. I started spinning a lot of Hip-hop, and so began working out scratching.
I spin at clubs, and I (very) often scratch over the first kick (beat) of the next song almost during the whole song, even with EDMs. Other DJs tell me I should stop a little but it’s like cigarette.
Any people on this board do the same ?
Absolutely not! This is a terrible habit and must be stopped - JUST like smoking.

I could see the issue, scratching is kind of like the FX in Traktor, less is more kinda thing. However I’d encourage you to keep finding spots to do in during EDM tracks. It can add some nice flair. Also go out of your comfort zone and find some other things to scratch besides the standard “Ahhh” and “Freshhh” sounds. DJ Rafik is a good example of scratching other sounds like synths. Also check out Craze, he does an awesome job of scratching over electro without over doing it.
scratching the first beat over a whole song? in a club? I’d pull you out of the booth lol
personlly i’d find too much scratching just really fecking annoying - but it can sound very cool if used now and then like an effect. love how james zabiela uses it for example.

I don’t really follow Zabiela, but from the stuff I have seen from him, I wouldnt call what he does “scratching”.
I cut up or baby scratch the 1 on most of the tracks I drop and blend, but I’m talking about scratching over like 2, 4, or 8 beat count mostly. Cutting up the 1 over the whole track kinda defeats the purpose of why most people do it. When people hear you cutting up the 1, they know something is about to happen, their ears perk up and they’re trying to hear what song your blending in or dropping. It’s almost like a warning their is some sort of transition about to happen. I would imagine if you’re doing it too much at random times, then it would lose this effect on your crowd.
As most people who have replied here have stated…this sounds horrible. Stop it. It sounds annoying as hell, and if fellow DJs are telling you to wind it down a little; do so.
Guess Bad Boy Bill, Craze, and others better start looking for new jobs then.

wrong!!! I do some great transitions with some skratches… but not through the whole song… just on the right parts…
yup. some scratching can sound cool - too much however can sound shite. it’s just like any other effect really.
I didn’t ever scratch with stuff like “heyy” (that can be heard everywhere), I only scratch over acapellas and some part of songs (kick, snare, etc.)
When a song doesn’t have extended intro, I like scratching and cutting.
