Sending Midi Clock with a Macbook and No Audio 8

I just got Traktor Scratch Duo pack that comes with Audio 4. This is fine for my needs but I sometimes do back to back sets with a friend that uses and all Ableton 8 setup.

I was wondering if the following is possible to keep Traktor and Ableton in Sync for B2B sets.

  1. Upgrade to Traktor Scratch Pro for Midi clock functionality.
  2. Purchase a midi to USB cable and a USB hub (Macbook has 2 USB sockets - Need 1 for Audio 4 and other for nocturn, hub would be used for Nocturn and Midi cable)
  3. Follow steps to sync programs.

I have literally just bought Traktor and don’t want to upgrade Audio 8 straight away until I get used to software or see if a new controller/soundcard like Xone 2d comes out in 2010.

Would the above solution work ?

i’m not sure you’d be happy with the “syncing” even if you did get it to work via usb midi.

I think the solution that you posted is a little bit overkill, charo. Another solution is to buy a LAN crossover cable (couple of bucks) and send your midi data over LAN through ipMIDI (ipMIDI - MIDI over Ethernet port). How to setup Traktor and Ableton so that they are synced, you’ll have to do a search on this forum, since there are already two articles posted on how to do it on a Mac and on a PC.
