Sennheiser HD25 SP and HD25-1

Sennheiser HD25 SP and HD25-1

I am in the market for some new headphones, and have been lured in by the craze to go with these small monitors.

I know that there is a difference between theses phones [not only the price!] however I was wondering if there was a noticeable difference in sound quality? The dual cabling on the SPs can be modded to go over the head like proper DJ cans.

Thanks.

Yes there is a noticeable difference between them as far as sound quality.

And the swiveling cups will probably drive you completely insane anyhow if you do any off ear mixing.

I can see your point…Doh! Any alternatives in the SP price range?

I’ll say it everytime, freaking awesome phones for the money, had mine almost 10 years and still going strong.

Do some research on them

I wish I knew what the difference was between these and the 7506s were.

The Warranty. 7506’s come with a sony pro warranty, V6’s are “consumer” - replacement parts # are the same.

edit: almost forgot the goldplated plug :stuck_out_tongue:

Can you use them for off the ear mixing? Do the cups move/swivel?

Kyle .. Top man.

I have been researching Sennheisers, Pioneers, Sony V700s, Denons, etc, but have not heard about these.

Researching them seems to uncover an underground following of die hard audiophiles who would rather swallow broken glass than give up their MDR-V6/7506 cans. Ean also made a point about them on a review of all the usual latest plastic inferior quality headphones available.

I have therefore made the purchase.

Thanks a lot. :sunglasses:

I have a pair of HD25 -SP1’s.

They are great flat response for production…but not for DJing.

  1. Not loud enough…I have tried using em on a huge outdoor rig.
  2. The swivel cups are going to do your head in.
  3. The cable split to the cups…I HATE THAT. You can route the wiring over the top to be one sided, but thats ghetto.

The original HD25’s are badass…$$…but badass.

Let us know your thoughts on the V6’s

Only thing I can think that sucks is most other headphones you’ll try from here on in will start sounding crap :stuck_out_tongue:

+1 on the original HD25’s were/are kickass as well, Just super pricey, I never saw the attraction in v700’s, Pioneers etc - too freaking heavy for my liking.

I’ll do a write up on here once they arrive next week.

Thanks again, looking forward to being retro.

Had the SP’s for years and I love em. But, like others said, the swivelling cups is a pain in the balls. Wish I’d stumped up the extra for the proper ones now…
