Setup/Gear Provided for you at the Club/Bar?

Just wanted to do a Round Up to see what gear is provided for you guys in the DJ Booth?

1st Residency:

1 Mono to XLR Input to PA (Yes Mono not Stereo)

Plenty of room for my Rig.

2 BiMonthly Spot

Side roomRane 57, 2 CDJ 800’s. Plenty of room for Rig setup

main room Pioneer 800, 1200’s, CDJ-100’s, SL-1, No Room, you use serato, cds or vinyl.

Ill try to take pics so you can see what we got.

Ranges from CJ-1000s, Technics and Pio 800s; to a spare input on their woefully underpowered home amplifier behind the bar, 10 metres away from the normal table with a reserved sign where I play.

Will most joints have the option of xlr and rca connection to the pa? My mixer only has rca and i would haaate to have to use a foreign mixer

You can get adaptors.

bring XLR to RCA adapters

Most clubs actually run mono sound. subs are always mono, and stereo imaging is quite difficult to do in at club sound levels. and a mono xlr cable will be balance

I dont really play clubs but… at the monthly gig I’ve been spinning for 4-5 months, we usually have 2 cdj 800s in the back, and an Nuo 4.0. in the front room we usually have 2 Techs, a mixer (I always play the back, so idk what it is). and of course, laptop stands, and plenty of room for controllers.

Sweet cheers - more cables for my box!

I get 2x CDJ1000’s, DJM800 or TTM57SL (if using serato), 2x technics, 2 wireless mics, and a house computer. We get out of town DJs and guests sometimes and this stuff is usually on everyone’s rider.

2x 1200mkII, 2x CDJ800, Ecler Nuo4, Numark HDX (don’t ask my why the hell they bought that monster…was before my time), Rane 57
plenty of room for my set-up, since i don’t need much of it  Stanton SCS3 ftw!

The bar I usally play at has a Xone 464 and a Tascam dual CD Player. I was plugging into the Xone and mixing with it, but it’s started making weird noises from time to time. Now I bring my own mixer, yank the XLR’s out of the Xone and plug them into my Denon.

so i take it alot of us are talking our own gear instead of using the house system

2 x phonos in to the house PA, so yeah I guess I take my own gear too!

Our club has a DJM 600, 2 x 1000Mk3’s and 1210 Mk5’s. DJM600’s suck and the cdj’s allways have something going wrong so we end up allways bringing down a Rane to mix on, and slipmats coz someone kept stealing the clubs so they stopped buying.

Ain’t that the truth. Paper record sleeves used to do it for us…

The couple of places I’ve DJed at have always had CDJ-1000’s, some sort of 4+ channel mixer, ample connections. Japan being Japan, even at the most budget bar/club… if it has a DJ booth, you can bet your buns it’s got at least 1000’s. Turn-tables are becoming more and more rare.
Space is at a premium in Tokyo so some places can be a little cramped, but they’re usually very good at accommodating you and your digital equip.

I have yet to perform with a digital connection as I only just recently got my VCI and have been on the move alot but the club I played at weekly for a while or so in Indonesia had CDJ 1000’s and a DJM 800. Simple standard and it was nice to use some quality equipment. However, the DJ booth was terribly cramped so transitioning DJ’s was always a pain

I didnt get to djing in main when I was in Japan, but in Okinawa…if it was even a dive bar It had a DJ Booth.

Yeah it does suck especially when you its two big djs! Big as in chunky or fat! LOL

Well,

in most clubs I got a paar of technics and a pioneer mixer (well in fact only djm-600 or djm-800’s so far). Once I was presented with a rotary rane MP-2016a (with the XP-2016a module). The sound was quite impressive there in fact. Sometimes I was presented with an A&H Xone:92 and once with a Xone:62. And just in one location there was a homebrewn mixer LOL. The thing was really crappy.

Most venues have additional CDJ-800’s or CDJ-1000’s. But i find the 1000’s models more reliable for club situations.

Patrick
