But I think more than anything this is where the sync button really starts to shine, when you have more than two decks going and are more concerned about making that sonic collage that creates a unique and one off listening experience for the crowd. If all you are doing is just mixing from track A to track B and then you are just applying effects, then I would have to agree as I’m pretty sure the guys who made the software was expecting their users to be a bit more creative and daring with how much potential the software has now. Sound quality is poo but you’ll still get it I hopes ---

Just something more to it than that. But does anyone on here do anything like that? Or do they just argue about sync button? Cos I’d love to see what none-big named DJ’s can do to better their abilities. ---

I think things such as adding effects, samples, cue point juggles, and stuff such as bringing in a track on a tiny (1/16th) loop and being able to increase the loop size to have it on beat with the current playing track are all made better sounding when using sync. It allows you to go more in depth and get more intricate with these things. When used well and in innovative ways, this is what makes a synced mix impressive. If your actually looking for an example, the fall electro mix on my sound cloud incorporates all of this. ---

It’s really just minor details. I’ve seen people with CDJ’s fuck up a perfectly reasonable transition. I’ve seen people using controllers with sync mangle the hell out of phrasing. No method is perfect. It’s the matter of how you want to get your specific sound across to the audience. I have a friend who likes to use the SCS system. He uses it with Traktor, and he usually doesn’t mix using sync. But when he wants to play more than 2 tracks at a time, or has some really fast transitions and mixing to take care of, that’s when he uses it. It’s a tool. No one goes around saying “Using a fence-post digger is fucking stupid for digging a hole, use a shovel. It’s been around longer and can get the job done just fine.” What it comes down to is using the correct tool for the job required. There are instances where you can use a fence-hole digger to… dig a hole. But it doesn’t mean it’s always the right thing to do either. People don’t give each other enough respect to do what they want. Fuck man, it honestly doesn’t matter. It’s musical semantics at this point. I think it’s best to know HOW to beatmatch so you can when the situation warrants it. But if you already know how, then do whatever. I’ve heard so many mixes that were good and bad that it really comes down to selection and application rather than if I’m worrying about using a button or not. ---
