Slip Mode

Slip Mode

Traktor NEEDS this!

And not just on Pioneer units.

Damn, now I’m a little jealous of the Pioneer controllers their coming out with, after seeing the Serato vid, just assuming the Traktor version will get Slip Mode as well.

Its a very innovative function. I never Cue Point juggle. Why? Because I just like the track to play out from start to finish. BUT, if I had to option to mess around with Cues and then instantly jump back into the track, I would go NUTS. With normal cue points, your limited to jump back into the track with a preplanned Cue point.

NI hook us up!

I pritty sure it only works with jog wheel movments and loops. Um you can replicate the loop feature with a bit of clever mapping using the beat masher. Turning the sound off and carrying on has no advantage over the line fader.

Mixvibes cross is getting slip mode this year.

+1

well if may get it but what controllers will SUPPORT it

anything midi mappable i imagine as its the software that handles loops and transport. not the hardware.

There’s always the Move/Beatjump controls.
Actually, i bet with a creative mapping, and a touch pot/fader, this could be achieved in traktor.

sorry to sound like a nub but slip mode?

I think he’s referring to the “needle drop” touch strips, but i may be wrong. If so, please disregard my previous post.

slip mode is for loops and scratching. you drop a 4 beat loop. currently if you end the loop at 4 it starts back where the loop started on the 1. but in slip mode, when you let go of the loop roll, it would start 4 beats forward.

i.e. the track underneath the loop roll keeps moving. this makes a more “musical” loop roll

Um, beatmasher/beatslicer.

nvm didnt see was answered on page 2

Slip mode can be duplicated quite easily.

It’s what instant doubles are for…

I’ve gave it a valiant effort on my TC/SCS set up and can’t get it quite right. Not positive it can be achieved to work as seamlessly as depicted in CDJ 900/ddj s1 vids. Maybe with a platter that was touch sensitive like a vci or s4 where the platter sends a note as well as a cc.

also ^^THIS^^

i was practicing this yesterday in itch. does exactly the same thing.

This doesn’t quite make sense to me. Doesnt the beatmasher function capable of this with the wet/dry amount. You dont need to start a loop, just turn off the beatmasher?

I like the idea of instant doubles to keep the fills in time. Slam the track for the 1. Turn off the effect and slam at the same time.

Cool stuff!

ive been trying to get this to work on my sc 2000. So far ive almost got it. Im trying to get it mapped to the point where you dont need to push an extra button except to turn on slip mode.

From Pioneer’s FAQ:

When you engage slip mode, using the player to loop, scratch or reverse will maintain the realtime play position of the audio as if you had never entered those modes. In other words, if you were to create a loop of “1, 2, 3, 4” and loop it once, while the loop is playing, you don’t hear the song progressing through “5, 6, 7, 8”, and when you exit the loop, the next thing you hear is “9, 10, 11, 12”.

Really, it brings a lot of strength to double deck mixing. That way, you don’t have to “waste” the space of your second deck for an instant double. Which is the other way you can achieve the same thing.

I really see awesome potential and fun with this in tuning your own build-up through effects, and then kicking off slip mode before a big drop. Also kinda nice I would imagine if you like to scratch now and again.

Instant doubles can do this, but it requires more active thought and button pressing. This way, it’s all semi-automated, which leaves you more room to be creative in other ways.

It’s honestly one of the huge features I really like about the DDJ-S1, and the CDJ-900’s.

I wouldnt say it requires more thought personally, you could also argue that the instant doubles is actually more powerful. Thats no excuse for Traktor not having the feature however.
