So god damn happy I have to share / ask questions!
Hey guys!
So let me tell you briefly about my amazing day. I got up, eyes red as hell, and got ready and went to school. Performed on school radio, but it was meh. Afterwords my friend msg’d me through facebook briefly to tell me he has me booked on March 24th to spin at his new club / night. March 24th is my birthday!!! So am super excited about it!
Secondly, my parents surprised me and bought me the new MacBook Pro (15" top of the line). Truly made my day .
Now I have two quick questions, firstly, if I use my new laptop while im backing up my old one via Time Maschine I can still restore the new one when I connect my external hard drive right? And secondly does it copy over my serial numbered stuff? For example does it copy over Word and Traktor and save the serial #s?
Yep a restore from time machine should keep everything serialized n’ all intact when you select import applications from the user account.
Other thing you could do is run Carbon Copy Cloner onto the USB drive rather than time machine, boot from it on the new mac and restore to the new disk that way you’ll have everything exactly as you had it… personally I prefer doing it that way as I know it’ll be identical with patches 'n all included.
Superduper should work too but I had issues with some files after.
P.S. Happy Birthday in advance, hope it goes well for ya…I had a very cool club booking on my 21’st many many moons ago so know the feeling.
Restoring is always good, but a clean install helps get rid of un-needed junk, selectively transfer files and apps instead of doing a straight restore if your willing.
Hahaha, i’ll watch for it. Apparently that night it’s a contest going on at the place, but the crowd is the judge. I’m going to have like a lot of friends there, so lets see how it goes . I have to put together a banging set for the night - so suggestions are appreciated .
A quick starting point, judging from what I heard you play today; I thought the middle 8-14 minutes were the strongest for you. I didnt personally care for the first few tracks, but I thought once you warmed up and starting flowing it was significantly stronger. The track selection is part of it, but obviously your comfort level with those tracks helped immensely.
If you use the clone method and both computers have firewire, you don’t need an external drive. Just put the new one in target disk mode.
That being said…I don’t really trust doing things like that. I’d just install new…but I like doing that occasionally to clean out all the crap I tend to collect, even if it takes me a while to remember how many of the little things I forget at first…probably not the best solution if you’re gigging with the new one right away, though.
My first gig is coming up this Thursday, and I finally think I got the track selection down. I just mixed it real quick without paying much attention (and it shows lol) and would love to have you guyses opinion on the track selection! And sorry for the random ass effects, I got MidiFighterFinger and started just hitting random buttons on the Midi Fighter.
I was also wondering (as far as I know there isn’t a sound tech that’s going to be around) how do DJM mixers connect to a clubs audio system? Is it via RCA’s or do I have to bring in something special to connect it to my S4?
You have to think of it as like, the sound the S4 is outputting is just another input to the DJM which will output that through it’s own master output. You don’t need to touch the DJM at all.
